Why don't deals get popularized?
I've been posting deals and a few of them have received a signifigant number of Woots. I had one yesterday that had 9 woots and was never bumped up. http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/1a89f628-0567-4b4c-b82b-5f48342e65d6/giant-600-cartoon-digitally-re-mastered-collectors-edition-12-dvd-set#3
here's another I posted with 6 woots http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/3a3f8e4b-71b6-4a09-b9bd-458f9947aa13/playstation3-dual-port-drop-in-usb-charging-dock-for-playstation3-handsets#0
Now, I've seen things with only 4 woots made popular but these never were made popular. I understand that NOW they are useless but at the time, there's no reason they weren't popularized. Is it because these expire within 24 hours? Does Woot not like 1saleaday? I just want to understand the reasoning.
I'm lazy, and not going to search for the specific questions, but there are actually some good rules of thumb that I've mentioned before. One of them is how quickly those votes are received for a deal. If your 9 votes were received over 6-8 hours, it's not going to make popular. Only ONCE have I seen a deal with four votes making popular, and that was quickly rescinded (it was an error in the algorithm).
A deal that receives 6 votes within the space of say, ten minutes, is very likely to become popular right away. It's also important WHEN it gets posted. We've noticed that things that get some magic number of votes that might have made them popular, and that should have tipped to the Popular page, don't ever move, if that moment was around 6PM Central, which seems to be when scripts run.
First off they changed the algorithm that decides what goes popular, so clearly your stuff has not met the criteria.
Secondly, it has nothing to do with 1saleaday stuff, though deal a day things suck when they hit popular since they will die in 24 hours.
@catbertthegreat: Another thing is that many of the deal a day sites are already getting that traffic elsewhere, and frequently don't make it to Popular. Perhaps the OP should try other things to post.

Funny you should use that example.... PWP's DVD burner just made it to the popular tab with 9 posts - after TWELVE hours?!?
A product of the new algorithm, I guess.
I couldn't remember when staff said they changed the algorithm, it was here:

I'm really curious what they changed.
@catbertthegreat: They had changed the algorithim before that. Some of us noticed that items weren't going over as quickly before things broke on Friday, it was taking more votes look at items before the thing broke. All have votes of about 10 or more.
Alright. There ya go. Thanks for clearing that up guys.
