@mistamoose: That movie still gives me the chills...

Every time I get an idea about it, I shudder and think it couldn't be THAT.

I read that Tarantino played around with the idea of having a case full of gold as a carry over from Reservoir Dogs, but thought it would change peoples perception of Pulp Fiction

I was actually wondering this just yesterday... lol

@mellielou: I heard something similar.

I want to watch the movie again before I really make an answer, I haven't seen it in a while.

I'm pretty excited to see where this thread goes, though

Either his soul, or a "Royale with cheese"

@devlin23: I don't think I'd want to eat at THAT McDonalds if their burgers glow like that...

I think that is the Diamonds from Tarrantino's movie "Reservoir Dogs". At the end of that Movie, where the diamonds end up is a complete mystery

@lparsons42: Tarantino though about doing that, but thought it would change the feel of Pulp Fiction.

I saw an interview with Q.T. a long time back where he essentially just said that it is whatever you think it is. Kind of a cop-out, but I find it interesting to see how some people say it's riches like diamonds and gold and some say it's somebody's eternal soul. Asking someone what they think is in the case is a good way to get a bead on what they find more valuable.

It can't be anything easily identifiable as when they show the briefcase to the thief he asks "Is that what I think it is?"

It has to be something esoteric, like Marcelis's Soul

Some sort of prop lighting...

I think it was a goldmember...

I'd always understood it as his soul, and I recall that the link was made with the bandage on the back of his head/neck from the earlier scenes. I know I read that somewhere, but can't dredge up a link or idea right now.

The last opportunity for true redemption of one's soul depicted as a tangible object. Nothing else is more precious nor valuable. Once it is lost, there is nothing else.

(Agnostic here...just wanted to toss in my opinion. Please don't yell at me.)

@thebeautifulcat: why would we yell at you ... a very open minded answer for an agnostic! Souls... redemption .... well played

Thomas Henry Huxley defined the term:
Agnosticism is not a creed but a method, the essence of which lies in the vigorous application of a single principle... Positively the principle may be expressed as in matters of intellect, do not pretend conclusions are certain that are not demonstrated or demonstrable.

@darrentf: I am not sure where, but there was something I read that it was his soul.
