Probably feel the same way when I almost lost my computer. Sort of a "Awww no, I lost so much stuff!" shortly followed by more of a "Wait.... I don't even care" kind of feeling. It'd be a shame, but I might actually feel kinda liberated.

That said, I think these Anonymous guys are just rebels without a cause, and I can't avoid hoping they just go away and grow up.

Who cares? When did people stop calling or even interacting face-to-face?

vote-for1vote-against

go back to myspace or friendster?

vote-for3vote-against

I think I joined this facebook group... Operation Facebook

vote-for4vote-against

I doubt I would notice, as I only log in semi-periodically.

vote-for11vote-against

Nothing, I deleted my facebook account in february. I was so addicted to it, i decided to quit cold turkey. best decision ever. At first, it was unbearable, but after a couple weeks without it, i found it to be very liberating. Now, I have more time to do things and when i get on the computer to do homework or whatever, the only website that distracts me is deals.woot

vote-for9vote-against

Personally, I'll be disappointed. I make a lot of money fixing computers for clueless Farmville users.

vote-for8vote-against

Rejoice. Mark Zuckerberg has sold out to all those national/international data-mining and Big Brother type corporations and agencies. To them, you're a citizen to be tracked for phony "security" (control) reasons, combined with someone to whom they can sell something. They couldn't care less that you're a human being.

vote-for2vote-against

What's that, Face on a Book???

vote-for3vote-against

@hobbitss: no, it's a book that's full of faces

vote-for4vote-against

@jkwhaley:

? You of all peopl should see how to turn a profit on this. Before November 5th, warn everyone about a potential outage of farmville and offer them paid help... Then on the fifth introduce them to some other equally dumb game on a random website.. for money.

vote-for3vote-against

As long as they replace every facebook URL with TROLOLOLOLOL,

I will Still use facebook on this day.

vote-for5vote-against

I don't really care.

HOWEVER, on principal, since anonymous is a group of asshats who were told by their parents that they actually matter, I may just punch the first anonymous person I see.

vote-for3vote-against

I used FB for a while. Then realized I was sppending way way too much time on Mafia Wars and Farmville, so I stopped doing MW and FV and realized that I didn't care that much anout the rest of it. I still get on occasionally to touch base with friends but mostly don't use it much.

So, to answer the question... meh, not really care all that much. I doubt it will be down long enough for me to actually notice.

vote-for2vote-against

november 5th is a long time to give notice to someone. they couldn't take down amazon, so hopefully FB is taking notes on what the big A did right. or what they did just slightly better than others
me, i'm gonna do the same thing i do every night - try to take over the world!

vote-for4vote-against

I won't care. If FB really is sending all our personal info to "government agencies" (and I wouldn't be at all surprised) then good riddance to it. I rarely post anything these days anyway...

vote-for5vote-against

I only use Facebook to score free samples and coupons, so I couldn't really care less.

vote-for7vote-against

OMG, people would have to go outside to meet people. WHAT WILL THEY DO?

Don't have, nor will I ever have a bookface.

vote-for6vote-against

I'll do nothing different than if they don't. I don't use facebook at all. I've never even made an account to log in to it. From everything I know about it, facebook is a massive waste of time and I have too many things wasting my time as it is.

vote-for8vote-against

Watch V for Vendetta that night. Which is what I do every November 5th..

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...

Anony can't hack FB. All they can do is attack less-popular web sites with DDOSS attacks in hopes the web server(s) cannot process the pinged packets fast enough. Anyone can do it to an ordinary web site (even Woot wouldn't be difficult to take down momentarily- heck, they do it themselves every time they post a BOC!). When you talk about big web sites there is nothing on this planet the members of Anony can do. The servers already expect massive amounts of traffic and can deal with whatever is tossed their way.

Remember when Anony got caught with their pants down when Amazon was unhackable? Amazon isn't the world's most secure web site but their web servers are capable of a lot more than any group of teenagers can do. FB is the same way. There's no way they can produce enough traffic to take down a site that receives millions upon millions of HTTP requests every hour.

(though I wish them luck. I don't like FB personally. I just know Anony can't do anything without their scripts).

@perlgoodies: Anonymous took down Sony's entire network, stole every bit of customer information and Sony had to take the entire thing offline for 2 months. I don't know much about how they're hacking into the systems, but it takes a lot more than a DDOS attack to extract information. I also highly doubt it's a bunch of bored teenagers. From what I understand, it's a bunch of programmers and network gurus that got bored and formed an allegiance to destroy the interwebs. I think Facebook should be very concerned if they're not already, and I think that anyone that doubts their ability to take it down is setting themselves up for failure.

I don't care for facebook either, but what Anonymous is doing is completely illegal and the parties participating need to be found, charged, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law

@capguncowboy: Believe it or not, most hacks are caused by DDOS attacks. That is how the Sony one started, too. Short of doing an OS fingerprint and trying to diagnose an unprotected vulnerability (or blindly portscanning any IP associated with the domain in homes to come in contact with an unprotected server) there isn't much to hacking. It all starts with a DDOS to drop a server. Once the server is overloaded you leave it vulnerable long enough to gain access. At this point you can either copy/delete everything you can before functionality continues and you're blocked out again or you can drop in a little something that will grant you access once the server is live again.

In a nutshell that is hacking. Cracking on the other hand, if they try to guess and use bruteforce to break into an admin panel for the server itsn't any more creative. They use free password breaking utilities and just try their luck. There isn't a single thing they've done that is borderline impressive.

@capguncowboy: If sites aren't secure, they need to be hacked so that they may become secure. I'm happy they hacked PSN, more secure for me now. (I got a PS3 after the hack)

I wouldn't be surprised if it is timed with Zynga going public.

I'm going to download my data on Nov. 4 and then sit back and watch what happens. Everyone that I need to contact I already talk to outside of Facebook, so an outage won't affect me.

vote-for1vote-against

I hate facebook as it just another means to pry into everyone else's issues instead of focusing on your own. Hell I might even sell all of my things and make a mssive donation if they do LOL. Then I would throw a welcome-back-to-reality party!
