Did you hear that the popular Irish author, Maeve Binchy, has died?
Maeve Binchy, one of Ireland's most popular writers, has died at age 72 in Dublin on Monday, July 30th.
She wrote 16 novels including Circle of Friends (that was made into the movie with Minnie Driver and Chris O'Donnell), several books of short stories, a play and a novella, and her work was featured in Oprah's Book Club. Did Maeve's work touch your life?
Very sad day indeed. One of my wife's favorite authors.
Oh dear. No, I had not heard. I have mixed feelings about Binchy's books - good escapist literature, some wonderful characterizations, willing to address issues of social class and wealth, but a bit too repetitive/feel-good-endings when not all ends well in real life - but as long as I don't read too many in a row, I enjoy her ability to craft a compelling story.
My thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones.
