Did they find the guy yet and or why he did it?

vote-for3vote-against

@cheezybeez: No motive yet. It's Suspected it's a terrorist attack. Suspect in custody, says he has explosives at his house.

Children among the injured/dead.

Unconfirmed that an infant was targeted, and I was hearing something about a bomb in the parking lot. Haven't heard anything else about that yet though, so possibly not true.

vote-for3vote-against

Aaarrggghh! Very sad.

I actually was scanning these questions to see if someone would post about attending the midnight opening. I was looking for something akin to when I attended LOTR Trilogy Tuesday. Instead, this. People can be so awful.

vote-for4vote-against

That really sucks. All was quiet and relaxed at the screening of the whole trilogy that I went to.

@pamfenway: I enjoyed it. Although the second movie is still my favorite.

vote-for3vote-against

How did it allow him to post a cuss word?

vote-for-3vote-against

You need to get the story straight:
14 dead...
No that gets the wacko on "GOOD MORNING AMERICA" all morning.

How tragic....

vote-for24vote-against

I read the article. This person shot an infant at point blank range. I do not understand how people disagree with the death penalty for living smegma, like this person.

vote-for1vote-against

@okham: Nice to hear a positive experience. :)

vote-for10vote-against

Just WOW!
I went and saw the movie last night and wake up to see this. Scary.
That could have easily been my theater, we where sitting right next to the emergency exit. It's crazy to think about.

I feel bad for all those poor people who where just out to have a good time and enjoy a movie only to be gunned down by some crazy lunatic. Nobody would ever expect to be shot down in cold blood at a movie theater, minding your own business.

It's a sick, sad world we live in at times.

vote-for10vote-against

Wow. I knew people were sick and twisted, but who does this? It's a shame, and I pray for the victims and their family and friends.

vote-for10vote-against

Prayers to the victims, family, and community. Let's read into how society is messed up later, we have more important things to do to recover from this.

vote-for19vote-against

Awful. Were it not for our newborn, we might have been at a similar midnight showing. My heart goes out to the families who lost someone, and my thoughts are with the other victims still struggling to live and recover from this horrible event.

I'm going to go hug my kids now.

vote-for2vote-against

Also the number of injured has been revised down to the mid 30s.

vote-for3vote-against

What a horrific incident. It hits close to home because I saw a movie at that theater just a few months ago. My heart goes out to anyone affected by this despicable act.

vote-for3vote-against

One of the injured has already posted pictures of his injuries to reddit

vote-for12vote-against

It's news like this that makes me just want to go back to bed. :(

vote-for2vote-against

Yeah screw this guy, he's an asshole who deserves the death penalty. Everyone was just there to have a good time and see a good movie. I wish they just would have shot him on the spot instead of taking him into custody. People like that give the human race a bad name.

vote-for29vote-against

Who the F brings an infant to a midnight showing of Batman?

vote-for7vote-against

@dogbountyhunter1: I wasn't expecting him to be taken alive. In incidents like this it seems like they either kill themselves or let themselves be shot. My gut feeling is he let himself be taken alive in hopes of spreading some message. If that's the case I hope they don't let him speak one word.

vote-for4vote-against

Ugh, took too long to edit my reddit post. This was on my mind last night, I figured none of you would be close enough to be there, or would have been at that specific theater, but I don't know so I'm just going to check in with a few CO Woot-friends.

@wilcononomous, @klynb, @abitterwoman, everything alright where you are?

vote-for4vote-against

All I know is I'm going tonight. All the people worried of a "copycat" will be kept away.

vote-for3vote-against

Thanks for asking. I and my loved ones are okay. We have never actually been that that theater. The closest one we went to was in Westminster. I hope everyone you mentioned is okay as well. And my heart goes out to those in CO who were hurt by the attack.

vote-for4vote-against

@dmaz: I disagree with the death penalty on this.

Why? In most cases these shooters already tend to kill themselves when done with their spree. They don't want to live and they want to take as many people with them as they can. Prevent them from killing themselves and make them spend life in prison. It's a fitting punishment for someone who wants to die.

vote-for11vote-against

@dmaz: "I do not understand how people disagree with the death penalty for living smegma, like this person."

Well, I don't believe in an afterlife. Therefore death is too easy a way out for scum like this. I'd rather they suffer for as long as possible in a solitary cell before dying a slow and hopefully painful death. I know many death penalty supporters who figure killing the criminal just speeds the trip down to Satan, but since I don't believe that happens, I want the criminal to be suffering here in this world.

And given the costs of enforcing the death penalty, it seems to be less expensive to the state to sentence the criminal to life in prison with no possibility of parole.

vote-for4vote-against

I have the utmost sympathy for all of the victims of the shooting. I hope that those who were hurt will make speedy recoveries, and my heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones.

On a side note, I have to question WHY someone would bring a 3 month old baby to a midnight premiere of Batman?

vote-for1vote-against

@stark: Well, now we know Gilbert Gottfried's user name on woot...

Let's just say too soon. Funny, but too soon.

vote-for2vote-against

@purplefeather: Gonna bet weeknight and/or all the 'kids' were too busy going to the show. Doesn't make it any more right, but yeah.

vote-for2vote-against

Perhaps a different title for this should be considered, in light of the tragedy that it is. When I see "!!Breaking News!!" with the double exclamation point I presume someone is excited about something positive - like "!!Breaking News!! NASA lands another man on the moon!" or "!!Breaking News!! North Korea initiates reconciliation and peace talks with the South!". While this story is rapidly evolving I rather hope nobody finds it positive.

vote-for4vote-against

@smudge262626: He was found in his car and put up no resistance. You're probably right that he wants to spread some kind of message; it's too bad he didn't just off himself as we likely won't learn anything useful from him.

vote-for3vote-against

@lparsons42: yeah, by no means was I happy or excited. Just worried, I have two friends from high school in tha state of CO and they'd be the kind of person to dress up for a midnight release, not to mention a few acquaintances in CO, so while not happy pretty worried id get a phone call from someone in the morning. Luckily they weren't there but it was quite a scare regardless

vote-for2vote-against

Latest update I have seen reports 71 people total were shot with 12 fatalities.

They also are struggling to enter his apartment which is booby trapped with a sophisticated maze of incendiary devices which are linked together with all kinds of wires. They say it could take anywhere between hours and days to disarm. 5 apartment buildings in the area have been evacuated until the police are able to give the "all clear".

vote-for3vote-against

Bless the victims and their family & friends. Terrible.

vote-for3vote-against

@elforman: I can't believe there were two other morons who upvoted his/her post.

vote-for2vote-against

@nanaejt: I didn't vote that one up or down. I might've voted it down but as I said, I did find it funny, so that negated the downvote in my book. Others' opinions will certainly vary.

vote-for1vote-against

I don't agree with our current Death Penalty system..... it takes too long..... should just take him out back and use the good ol firing squad...

I understand our laws say everyone gets a trial, but c'mon.. this one can be done in a weekend. Let's not spend millions of tax payer dollars to convict, go through the 15year appeal process to finally do a lethal injection.

Just take him out back... and shoot him a few hundred times...

vote-for4vote-against

@triplebud: What the heck does that have to do with anything?

vote-for1vote-against

@cowboydann: Denver may not have as many people as other major cities, but the metro area is extremely spread out. I'm 20 miles away and have no intention of seeing the movie (as far as comic movies go, I'm strictly Marvel).

vote-for1vote-against

Well glad to hear you're fine :3 last person to check in is @wilcononomous...

vote-for1vote-against

@cowboydann: oh there you are in DWChat. scratch that.

vote-for2vote-against

@cowboydann: Doing fine kind sir. Still went to the movies today. just hadn't caught my name being dropped over here.

vote-for-4vote-against

why are we so civil in how we should deal with this scumbag? I say firing squad with orders to only shoot below the waist (that way it takes him longer to bleed out), or give the family members a blowtorch and some forging equipment and let em go to town all medieval.
