What is the purpose of the Telus "registerdevice" subdomain?
The other day, at about 2am MST (3am Woot time), something strange happened to my internet connection. I was still connected, but suddenly every webpage redirected to https://registerdevice.telus.com. Other services such as IM clients no longer worked. I called it a night and only checked again five hours and ten hours later. At five hours, it was the same. At ten, everything was working again. So I was wondering if anyone might have a clue as to what happened. I don't want to jump through all the tech support hoops because everything appears to be working smoothly now; at this point I'm just curious. My best guess is that Telus was setting up something new and setup was still incomplete. Ideas?

Actually, I have plenty of ideas, and it is literally KILLING me not to answer this for you, but....
It's Deals dot Woot dot Com, kiddo, and no matter how fascinating the question, or how much I'd like to know more, like what router you were using, how old your account is, and did you always use CSIP or are you an older customer that started out with OCA, and what hardware is between you and the wall, and what operating system are you using, and...
Well, I've just put @hobbit to sleep, and there are a good dozen people staring at the screen, wondering if I've been into the christmas cheer instead of coffee. It's a fascinating question, but not for here. Not even on christmas (although I do think of it as a gift to me, since I am now off poking at the broken DNS for registerdevice.telus.com).
Sorry. Better luck next year.
@shrdlu: so this was his ISP? because his question totally confused me and I knew it had nothing to do with woot. Your answer didn't put me to sleep it made me laugh.
@hobbit: Yep. Broadband provider. They have helplines, and there are forums.

Actually, I have the people skills of a diamond back.
@shrdlu: But I like your people skills - you make me laugh. This cannot be bad. Ho-Ho-Ho.
@shrdlu: Technically if you have the people skills of a diamond back, a couple of the more idiotic question askers would be dead by now...well that explains why some don't reply back.
It is in the nature of the snake to strike, and of the rabbit to die.
Ha, given some of the random questions I saw floating around "Ask the Wooters", from non-question haikus to girlfriends, I thought it was just a place to ask anything. My bad then!
