If the theme of your t-shirts is Monty Python, superheroes, or zombies, you might be a geek.

You own more non-standard dice than ties.

You know the 12th digit of pi is 7.

hint: the joke is meta

I definitely relate more with the geeks than the nerds.

You might be a geek if...

You are currently sitting in a room with more then 3 working PCs.
Your family calls you to work on their PCs.
You've explained the Matrix to someone who watched the Matrix.
You have a PC that runs Linux.
You have your own web page.
You know Robot Chicken rocks.
You do not use the default settings on you router.
You know Tardis is cool.
You get tech news alerts on your Android device.
You know at least 10 completely different passwords by heart.
You have emailed yourself to make sure the server is working properly.
You paid more for a computer then you have for a car.
You have seen the 2008 War Games.
You hate iwhatever because you can not live that kind of control.
You know 7mb download is not enough for you.
You have seen Angelina Jolie's breast in a movie.
You Love Monty Python movies.
You have heated arguments over OS'es.
You have repaired a >$10 gadget.
You have ever hard coded an IP address.
You do not know the people of Jersey Shore.

@curtisuxor: I think you have the wrong number for the 12th digit of pi. It is definitely not 7. If you include the digit to the left of the decimal point, the 12th digit is an 8. If you only include the digits to the right of the decimal point, the 12th digit is 9.

@cengland0: Good gravy, fella. I put the hint there. Think about it.

Not just a geek, but a geek with a capital G.

vote-for9vote-against

I have 4 desktop computers in my home office. I typically use two at a time having a mouse in each hand. There is a laptop in the bedroom, another one that stays in the car, and I also have an Android tablet that I carry everywhere.

I'd say that I'm a complete geek except that I don't have a smartphone. I guess I'm only 90% geek.

vote-for11vote-against

@curtisuxor: Sorry, I've never meta-joke I didn't like.

vote-for9vote-against

Yup. But I only have 2 desktop PCs in my office, one laptop. And one is currently running WHS 2011. But I still bow before a friend of mine in LA. He reall is fluent in Javascript and Kingon.

vote-for3vote-against

@cengland0: Hah.

Although looking back on it, I should have worded it thusly:

You might be a geek if... "You know what the 12th digit of pi is. It is 7."

vote-for5vote-against

I'm a geek not because of some arbitrary standard, but because I believe I am one.

(But then I also work here so that might have some influence.)

vote-for3vote-against

I'm a Geekzer. I started programming computers in the 60s.

vote-for7vote-against

The more money I make and the older I become, the less of a geek I become.

For instance, when my computer used to crash, I would spend the weekend reading logs, testing hardware, recompiling the kernal (if necessary) till I fixed it. Now I just guess and replace parts or will just re-image my desktop. I'm like 5 years away from totally Geek Squading it

I used to enjoy home projects, fixing things around the house, etc. I just paid a guy $80.00 to install a ceiling fan in my house without a second though. If the "me" from 2002 heard about that, he'd kill himself.

Finally, I passed the final torch and bought a prebuilt machine with a pre-installed OS. I always used to build my own computers and would meticulously set up the OS just like I liked it.

Hold on to your inner geek as long as you can

vote-for6vote-against

@ryanwb: I am the same way though I find it's more about income than age. 2 years ago I would have never paid anyone mainly because I couldn’t afford it. Due to some great blessings my income has doubled since then (I also spend more time working) but it makes me much more likely to pay someone or to just pay for it done already than to do it myself.

Though I did find I miss it the other day I spent 2 days working on bringing a laptop back to life that was far beyond dead and when I succeeded I felt pretty awesome you don’t get that same kind of satisfaction from just buying it at best buy.

Though if anyone ever catches me geek squading something shoot me that I will never stoop too.

For anyone considering Geek Squad, give me a call instead.
For $50 I will come over and kick you in the nuts.
You'll be better off in the long run.

I think most of what people are calling geek, I've seen as being more nerd traits. Geek to me seems like someone with a universal interest in many, many things. A nerd tends to be someone obsessed with one thing very much.

As someone who enjoys Dr. Who, likes cooking and Food Network and prefer the Japanese version of Iron Chef. And someone who knows his way around networking, programming, and computer repair. And not being able to watch TV without pulling up IMDB and looking up any guest star. I think that's more what I think of when I think Geek.

i work in a prison call center with a couple hundred other convicts, so there are a couple hundred computers in this room.
i have a laptop that dual boots xp and linux, does that count?
i used to have my own web page, but the judge said i couldn't any more.
who hasn't seen angelina jolie's breast in a movie?
i installed the hard drive and oses in the above mentioned laptop (bought from ebay); does that count for fixing a >$10 gadget?

If the side panel to your computer is never attached........
If you hack a new gadget as soon as you get it home.......
If you have D&D character sheets from 30 years ago.......
If you know at least 2 ways why duct tape is like the force......
If you used old AOL floppy disks to make miniature Federation starships and Klingon birds of prey......
if you suspended those miniatures from the ceiling above your computer, orbiting a styrofoam ball, painted to look like a planet, in attack formations......

vote-for4vote-against

@wilfbrim: I want to learn Klingon. I guess the gives me half a geek point. I don't have time to learn Klingon because I can't stop playing Borderlands2 .

@woadwarrior: LOL, have a clip-on fan attached to the desktop, aimed into the open hole in my PC. I get a 4C drop with that configuration. :-)

That depends what your definition of a geek is, but yes, probably.

@pocketbrain: I have used dryer venting to direct air flow.

Once when my PC was dying I used this fan to keep it cool. (once more like a month while used it to pick parts for my next PC)

My bad about the > it should have been <. edit If you have fixed a gadget that cost less then $10

vote-for2vote-against

@caffeine_dude: Damn. now I have to see if I have any AOL floppies laying around. I never saw the x-wing and falcon designs before.
