Forum Favs: What's the coolest astronomy picture you've seen?
I like this one -

But I'm willing to entertain others for a new current favorite...
This amazed me. Just to the right of the big fireworks explosion is a comet.

Here's the link to the story and explanation.

Edit: The picture is larger in the story and it's easier to see the comet.

The Crab Nebula
@tbgolladay: That's the best I've seen. Awesome find!
The one that I took while in Astronomy class of our moon through a huge telescope.
@theoneill555: I love you. You are SUCH a trouble maker. Thanks for the smile. :-D
i've always been a fan of this one. larger view here

@shrdlu: I could not resist :-)
woot!
@kbsig106: I literally lol!
@briandrea: Pictures or it didn't happen!
@carl669: That's always thrilled me. How about this? Just saw it on CNN, but I don't know the name.

http://apod.nasa.gov has been my homepage for the past 6 years. During one semester, a professor had us look at 13 APODs and write summaries about what astronomical entity was being displayed/portrayed.
My favorite: (2010 October 05: Horsehead and Orion Nebulas). It looks like two cosmic forces about to strike one another.
