Have you considered attaching a hitch instead?

I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject but a friend of mine is also in the market for a roof rack and mentioned that attaching a hitch might be cheaper, easier, and more versatile.

@pulsetv: I have considered that, although one thing I am looking to carry soon is a full-sized mattress, so a hitch wouldn't help much.

I have used Yakima racks for years - well built, hold up to extreme weather well and they have an application for just about any vehicle. I just checked, and they have a solution for your car. I currently have a Subaru with roof racks, a Rack & Roll Trailer and a cargo box. Also, Thule might work for you. I also own a Thule cargo box for winter sports since it opens on either side and I like to grab my skis/boards without having to walk around the vehicle. My Yakima box only opens from the passenger side.
