Seriously though: How come Home.woot can post lube, and we can't?
I posted a deal to home.woot to point out the hypocrisy on the woot page. You were a good sport about it woot and kept it up for much longer than you should have, but I just want to know. Don't you think it might be time for a change in the rules @jumbowoot?
I won't post the screenshot of the deal here but If you are keen to where I post my screenshots you can find it in a second.
Agreed. I don't think it's fair (can we start rocking the Woot van until we flip it over now?).
I know that this is your site, but double standards are for dirty politicians, not our beloved Woot staff.
(O)K(a)Y, woot. Is this a "Do as I say & not as I do?" I understand this is your site and you can do as you wish. Seriously, though, it's rather confusing.
Read somewhere that lubes weren't allowed because of the 'family friendly' atmosphere you are trying to maintain. Guess that doesn't pertain to home.woot, but does to deals.woot. That must be it. Right? And, I'm still puzzled about condoms being acceptable. Not going to talk about the tampon holder that attaches to the toilet. oops! Sorry. I just did. Shutting up now. :-X
This item from the main woot site is also an example of just how family friendly woot can be.
Because @jumbowoot knows we touch ourselves at night.
Double standards are terrible creations of humanity. This... is an inconsistency.
@baqui63: :-D Woman friendly at least.
Edit to add: Could be friendly to men, too. Did not mean to discriminate. Should have said ADULT friendly.
I'm too much of a newbie to know about all the rules and such, but I do thank you all for some of those links. ;-)
Came here when I first saw it up, and was surprised nobody posted a question about it. Guess I just didn't wait around long enough. Kinda weird, especially if you looked at some of the quality posts selected.
To quote @brutherford when I raised a question about woot staff posting duplicates..."They do call us "Woot Gods" for a reason... We do what we want! DUH..."
Your concern is valid @cowboydann but unfortunately, I doubt it will make much of a difference.
Family friendly? Well, and I'm just saying, sometimes maybe one might need lube to create a family? Can't have a family without lube?
Now how's THAT for an argument? :D
That's a slippery subject
Just a guess, but I imagine the difference is that when they post something a little risque on any of the other Woot properties, they are the seller and therefore control the products presented. The nature of deals.woot is one based almost entirely on external links to unaffiliated merchants who offer a wide variety of related items. I think you'll find most sellers of lube will also offer a number of items most people would find objectionable, not to mention the pornographic images on many of their websites.
In other words, I don't think it's the product they have a problem with, it's the sellers.
in this case, is it possible it has more to do with where the item is posted? for example, somebody posts lube for sale on an external site. a wooter clicks on it and the images on the site are NSFW or the site just isn't legit.
could that be what they're trying to avoid. i'm sure there's a better answer to this, but i haven't had my coffee yet, so i don't know what it is.
@tbase: I SAW NAKED LADIES ON AMAZON.COM!!! Woot should stop block anything with links to that website.
Edit: The comments thingie automatically marked up link to Amazon. That link just takes you to their site, not to naked ladies on their site. You'd have to search that up on your own.
@dubdubdub: Thank you. Now I have something to do this morning.
@tbase: @carl669: That's true, and makes the most sense but I'm pretty sure I've seen links to Drugstore.com get deleted. I guess though it's just part of a blanket rule to make it easier to enforce. You're probably right.
Consistency is good and all, but how many of us are really coming to woot for rock-bottom lubrication prices? I've heard of living hand-to-mouth, but not...
Well anyway, I don't see it as a big loss to the community.
If you're looking for lube on Amazon, make sure you read the reviews. :x
My guess is it's easier to deny a category for deals.woot to prevent things from getting out of hand, while if it's an item they're selling they give it the woot description to try to keep things PG-13.
Not really an issue of hypocrisy imo, since deals.woot is a different beast than the other .woot sites.
Their sites, their rules. I'd hate to see them take their football and go home.
Wood be nice to hear an official response from Woot. :)
I am so glad you brought this up. I tried posting a deal from a very good quality "adult product" site once, and it was also, politely, taken down.
But fetish-wear (slutty nurse, slutty schoolgirl, slutty whatever-stereotypical-female-role-men-like) is a-okay?
I think it's fine that they posted lube (although lube that adds "extra feeling" freaks me out), but I agree that the inconsistency needs addressing.
