No, we carve virtual pumpkins.

We actually carved Funkins (artificial pumpkins) so we can use them year after year. And so we didn't have to deal with gutting the pumpkins. On the other hand you don't get pumpkin seeds out of the deal, the tools get really hot when you're carving, and they make an even bigger mess than gutting an actual pumpkin would (think sawdust).

We used to get one pumpkin per kid, and put them out on the front porch on Halloween. When younger, they drew the face and I cut them out. When they got older, we allowed them to use the knives. (We had a pumpkin carver set of thin knives for carving)

The pumpkins we carved are not only real, we grew them in our garden. One of the ones that wasn't carved is destined to become a Thanksgiving pie.

Yep. The kids design the faces on paper first and then we transfer them onto the pumpkin. Our are old enough to help do some of the cutting with a lot of assistance.

@pxb006: LOL... OK I guess I should have worded that a little better. We have friends and neighbors that do not carve pumpkins anymore they just set out the plastic/ceramic type with battery lights. So I was curious if the whole carving thing was a dying tradition.
