Oh and right now I have a realllly nice Sealy Tempurpedic, how would it compare with this? I hate the idea of getting rid of it, but I don't have a way to lug it 1500 miles.

Meh the more I dig, the more I think I don't want Ikea.

they have a bunch of different levels of quality. Their high-end is as good as any other brand.

@kamikazeken: Cool, thanks. I just found out there is an Ikea where I'm going so I'll just go lay on every bed for about 15 minutes ...it's going to be awesome.

bring a book, spend at least an hour on the one you think you're going to buy.

@kamikazeken: lol! "sir.. sir.. you've been here since this morning, move along sir. no, that sink doesn't work and neither do the toilets, sir! awww what'd you do?"

you don't want to rent a u-haul truck? and why is @shrdlu banned from answering? :-o

@w00tgurl: lol, they better not care because that's exactly what I'm going to do.

I don't know if you've ever rented a u-Haul, but they can be pretty expensive. Especially if you are driving 1500+ miles.

I did check their site and for a 14 ft u-Haul and an auto transport trailer for my Subaru they estimated it right around $1,500 (not even including gas and insurance which would be A LOT). Personally, I would rather sell some of my nicer things, give away the rest, and buy all new stuff when I get there.

However, there is a possibility my company would pay the costs, but I haven't confirmed that yet.

@iggz: i think you can also deduct it
http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc455.html

bad thing is, you'd have to swallow the cost until next year's tax filing. it would count as an "adjustment to income" next year. IF you decide to do that

@iggz: btw they also have trailers. if you have a subaru, i bet you have a hitch in the back. the 5'x8' trailer can hold a queen bed, and other stuff you'd rather keep.

if you enter your car make/model info, it tells you what you can haul.

@w00tgurl: Thanks again, but unfortunately no hitch on the Subaru. I always thought about getting one installed, but haven't got around to it.
