@djbowman: Sounds like you've got some tight constraints on the size requirements. I don't know what exactly they are, so from your current IKEA specs, I'd guess that you're looking for something under 40" wide, but with some height, to keep stuff from the kidlets' grasp...

This option is rather random, but as I've some family in Utah, I'm a bit familiar with the KSL listings, and maybe this is could work...?

@djbowman: My personal favourite is the last, although it is significantly more expensive than the earlier options (especially the used one), because it has separate doors for the base unit and the upper hutch. If you have any other suggestions as to what you'd like/need, let us know. Like I said though, I tried to keep everything within the <40" wide guess.

Thanks for the great suggestions! Essentially the main thing I got from the ideas was the right search terms for what I was looking for. In the end found a Solid Oak bookshelf that was extra deep. 30 bucks. Good deal. Looks like a kiosk at a university campus now but slept last night with the acutal AC working it was great!
