Don't get into the situation.

Used to live in San Antonio. ALWAYS some clown driving into deep water...some get saved, others aren't so lucky.

If you think first, chances are you won't have to react later.

vote-for13vote-against

77 people in one car? What were they, clowns? Those people never learn.

vote-for4vote-against

Correct me if I'm wrong, but If it is the incident I'm thinking of; they were asleep (it was late evening when it happed).

How to protect yourself and your family? That's a tough one because these kinds of things don't happen very often (luckily so). I guess being aware of the climate and your surroundings, looking for possible places (I've heard people say ".. that's an accident waiting to happen..." putting alarms on everything, making sure everyone has a charged cellphone and at least one place to meet up if someone gets separated from the group. I've always told my daughter to make certain she knows where the exits are when going to a gathering in a large place (sports arena, nighclub, etc.) I'm sure there are other methods and I'd like to "hear" them.

vote-for9vote-against

ok. I realize the english here wasn't perfect, but why the down votes? she's asking for tips for safety and advice for how to help protect loved ones, is that really a down vote thing? or as @thunderthighs put it recently "you can answer without being poopy heads" (yes, i have started using that as a quote on several things in my life--so thank you @thunderthighs).

@moosezilla: Not quite the same, really, as other situations that dearest TT was referring to. Note the random questions (other than the first one). Yeah, I am that cynical.

There are also deals that have been posted, but mostly they get deleted. It isn't as though the OP cares in the slightest what your answers are. The website is:

@shrdlu: so if you feel that this is someone posting for bad reasons then did you tattle it? (i can understand if you did). i have no objections to tattling to get rid of people doing things they shouldn't but just downvoting and leaving comments like "77 people in one car? what were they, clowns?" does no one any good. if you want the poster to learn how to abide by the rules, then help them to learn the rules. they don't necessarily know that they are being persecuted for others wrong doings. and yes, whereas this poster has posted stupid crap before can you say you never posted anything stupid online ever? (i admit i have). have you never had to explain to someone that seemed to be a reasonable person that their idea was just wrong, or had it explained to you?
all i'm saying here is benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. op seems to be genuine here (at least this time).

@jseureau: To shoot the waters from the flood or the crack in the earth from the earthquake?

vote-for4vote-against

@mtm2: Thank you for your answer first, and i agree with you to some extent... Sometimes, many people get into trouble because they don't know the trouble is coming...But I really hope that most of us can do some preparation or know some emergency common sense at least... we never know what will happen next time, and sometimes, people are so weak compared with the strong nature... know more, protect you and your family better in case there are some unexpected situations...

vote-for4vote-against

@jsimsace: Haha, my friend, sorry for my expression is not clear... there are not in one car, but many cars got into trouble because the flood was too fierce...

vote-for4vote-against

@susan11125: Thank you very much for your kind answers...yes, it's reported happened at evening, but the main reason is that the flood is too fierce and sudden... And maybe the drivers didn't realize the ponderance, then...So, you are wise to tell your daughter some common sense, and i was meaning to remind all my friends to think and do some preparation.

vote-for2vote-against

@jseureau: Haha, that's a good idea sometimes...

vote-for5vote-against

@moosezilla: Deal Moosezilla, thank you very very much for your answer and explanation...It really comforted me a lot...I admit that i am a little spoony sometimes. When an unexpected disaster destroyed a beautiful place and many brilliant lives, i feel sorry and regret and wish to change something, or maybe just mean to remind all to nip in the bud... Sincere thanks!

vote-for5vote-against

@shrdlu: Hi, dear Shrdlu, if you said "It isn't as though the OP cares in the slightest what your answers are." just because that i was lazy to answer and thank for the answerer, i sincerely apologize for that. But i have to say that you make me feel like a controversial celebrity, and lie in also gun...Fortunately I'm not a celebrity. Maybe i'm lazy to join in the discussions and lazy to answer, but i'm really serious to ask any question. It's meaningless to take some many people's lives as a question, yes? But, thank you all the same for your answer....Good luck!

vote-for2vote-against

@susan11125: Haha, you are so humorous, maybe Jseureau means that the drivers can shoot the windows to break them and escape from the car...

vote-for5vote-against

@moosezilla: Thank you very much again...too much thanks for you " protecting" my broken hearts, Haha... .

@cherry123: Keep practicing your English. English is heavy with verb inflections as opposed to Asian languages. This can present some amusing moments as we've all witnessed here :) Fluency will come with time.

Until then, please to explain what is meant by this: "...and lie in also gun"

@shrdlu @moosezilla: Congrats! You two succeeded in turning my morning coffee into a nasal flush.

I'm not sure about saving from floods. However, you mention people in a car. There is a product called Res-Q-Me, which is small and you can keep on your keychain. If you need to be able to quickly get out of your car and the doors won't work (under water, or you've crashed), it can be handy.

For fires, you should make sure your smoke alarms work and the batteries are changed. If you get in the habit of changing the batteries in smoke/CO alarms when you change your clocks, they should stay in working order. As well, if they are 10 years old (manufacture date, not when you started using them), replacing them. As well, have a plan with your family of how to get out of your house if there is a fire, and where you will meet.. generally the mailbox, or house across the street. Make sure to tell your kids if you are not at the "safe spot" not to look for you, but to tell the firemen they can't find their parents. I could go on and on about fire safety... (cont)

... but you can visit your local fire department and ask about tips. They may even be willing to come to your house and show you places where to improve safety. We'd rather come to your house when it's NOT on fire :-)

Also, invest in a few fire extinguishers. Have a Class K in your kitchen, and a few ABC ones available. You never know! I once saved a family members porch when a trash can caught on fire and they didn't know it (someone put a cig butt in it). I walked in, saw flames.. grabbed an extinguisher and put it out before it caught the furniture completely ablaze.

And, get a good CO detector. I like plug-in ones, and make sure it's in the hallways where the bedrooms are.

Ok... now I'm rambling. No matter where the OP is from, there are still tips to help save your lives during an emergency like a flood or fire.

@moosezilla: This will be (hopefully) my last comment on this question, here. Did I tattle the question? No. Life's too short. The question actually already had some decent answers. I've seen the OP reply on other questions, which makes her (I'm assuming female here, although I may be mistaken) more attentive than some. She appears to have given up posting deals from that site, much like @venomem gave up, which is wise. I hope people didn't buy "Cisco" gear from there. If they did, they got what they deserved.

Back to tattling. I almost never tattle questions, unless they seem to be actively promoting a site, or exceed the bounds of propriety (and I mean exceed). I seldom tattle on deals either, but that's because I seldom look at them any more.

I do have some puzzlement over our recent influx of non-English speaking visitors, though. There have been a LOT of them, as was pointed out...

There are many comments made by this particular OP, and (as I'd said) it really puzzles me. Most of them have been on deals, and they get downvoted. I'd genuinely like to see the motivation for posting here, as opposed to on a site where there would not be a language issue. If she's just trying to practice English, and communication skills, she has the opportunity to say so now. Nothing wrong with that, and there are quite a few people that would be helpful with it.

I'm always happy to see that my cynicism is misplaced.

So? @cherry123, did you want to say where you were from, and why you've stuck around?

vote-for5vote-against

@shrdlu: As spammy as some of them are, I'm beginning to enjoy all of the Engrish* As A Second Language posts.

*I use the term "Engrish" with nothing but gentle humor in my heart as I've butchered my share of languages in my life.

vote-for5vote-against

@lavikinga: It depends on what and why, for me. I want to see an up front explanation, just once, that says "Yeah, I'm from Hong Kong, and trying to brush up on my language skills, and you folks seem interesting, and entertaining, so I thought I'd try interacting with you."

Anything, really, that isn't an attempt that just ends up getting voted down, because the question asked is in such broken English that it causes the standard visceral reaction.

http://deals.woot.com/questions/details/77f8562e-5163-4f17-8ee0-f1b4ecac782d/why-my-site-is-not-being-able-to-advertise-on-wooti-posted-deals-and-it-was-remo

(although that one had some serious comments)

Both of the questions posted by @venomem had badly phrased questions, and some pretty funny comments. I was impressed that the OP just kept coming back (much like this one), determined to answer questions.

Dunno. There aren't any easy answers.

vote-for3vote-against

@lavikinga: Thank you very much for reminding me...Ok, I'll try my best to practice English and if you have any other advice, I'll be very appreciated. Besides, I said "lie in also gun" means that I did something without viciousness, but some friends may distort my original meaning...Thank you!

vote-for4vote-against

@kmeltzer: Wow, you really gave me a lot of practical tips on saving myself, thank you very much for you patiently explaining. And I'm sure there are many others benefit from your tips...Thanks!

vote-for4vote-against

@cherry123: "lie in also gun" makes absolutely no sense in English. None whatsoever.
A gun is a firearm, like a rifle or pistol.
Lie can mean a falsehood or untruth; to be supine, at rest, reclining.
