I know what you mean, the Temperpedic (sp) beds are a bit expensive, but they are guaranteed for 30 years. THAT means a lot. My husband and I bought one about 3 years ago and I had big time buyers remorse. But now I am so very glad we got it! It is the most comfortable bed to sleep in and when my husband gets up at night, I absolutely do not know since my side of the bed doesn't move. When I get up in the morning, I feel great.

Another added bonus is that you don't have to rotate the mattress, ever. It takes regular sheets too.

The only thing I can tell you is that you have to experience it for yourself before making the decision. Good luck.

we have a split king. it uses two twin xl sheets. the thing is huge.

sorry, i guess it didn't take the edit.
mine is a split king. uses twin xlong sheets(very hard to find). folds you into whatever position you can think of. spouse loves it (failed spinal surgery). you can adjust to whatever number is best for each. higher numbers are like sleeping on concrete and lower are like sleeping on an underinflated air mattress while camping. first commenter was correct that you can't tell the other person is moving around. once you find your number it will hold at that position even if unplugged.
had a 12 inch memory foam before this. thought the warm feeling everyone complained about would be nice in my cold house (50degrees) since i am always cold (even in july). unless you are bigger than 150 pounds you just sit on top-like on plywood, but it will still make you hot. gave it away after six months.
in the end it comes down to what you are use to.

IMHO, they are on the same line of Bose and Monster Cable; you're paying for a lot of marketing and non-competitive business practices, not for a stellar product. My opinions from last time still apply.

A Google search will yield many unhappy customers when it comes to warranty issues, and more seriously, the petrochemicals that make up the foam off-gassing.

Consider looking at natural latex mattresses instead.

My brother loves it, however I couldn't stand lying on it. I felt trapped. I like a bit of bounce to my bed. I don't even like the foam mattress toppers. I like being able to move freely in bed. It's all personal preference I guess :-)

I love them. Totally worth the money.

Admittedly, I only have a foam topper. My boyfriend got a Tempurpedic 15 years ago, and it's still absolutely amazing. I LOVE sleeping on it. When he gets up at night, I don't notice, and vice versa. It's so comfortable. My joint pain is so much better when I've slept on it.

I have wondered this too in the past, I've always assumed it's marketing hype.

I had slept on my sisters for about a week before deciding that I would never buy one. If you keep your sleeping area cold, it's like getting into wet clay when you go to bed.

I recently bought a pressure relief memory foam bed (queen size) with a pillowtop. It is not the Tepmerpedic brand and I bought it at Sam's Club for about $500 delivered. It is also kinda cool to watch it go from a rolled package to the fully expanded mattress. There is a slight odor at first, but it goes away within a couple of days. I was skeptical at first but needed to try anything to help with a lower back problem. I absolutely love this bed. I don't "sink" into the foam and it does not form a "dent" with my body weight while sleeping (5'10", 185 lbs). It definitely allows me a good night sleep. And, it is a great time to buy today's mattress cover deal to go along with it (I did). I am happy with my purchase. Hope this helps.

I got a queen platform bed about 16 years ago with a top of the line Simmons mattress. About five years ago, it was time for a new mattress.

I considered getting another standard mattress, but my officemate had recently gotten a Tempurpedic and he & his then girlfriend both spoke highly of the Tempurpedic mattresses, so I looked into them.

As I recall, they had five different levels of mattresses & I did not like the two top of the line ones (I think it was the pillow-top). I believe I ended up with their middle level mattress. It was about $1820 including 8.625% tax & a $75 "delivery/disposal of old mattress" fee and cost me about $600-700 more than a standard mattress. It came with a "free" pair of queen size Tempurpedic pillows & a nice waterproof mattress cover (which came in really handy when my daughter didn't do the litterbox for a week & the cat peed on my bed).

Today, it is just as firm and comfortable as I remember it being when it arrived. I recommend them highly.

I have a tempurpedic with a pillow top. The only complaint I have is that you can't sit on the edge of the bed as the foam sinks down and you slide off. My wife and our cat like to take up 3/4 of the bed, so if she decides to take up more, I sleep on the edge and have a hard time staying on.

It's supposed to have a thicker foam to prevent this, but I don't see the difference. Oh, and it's a standard King.

@moosezilla: Sounds like you are talking about a sleep number bed, not a temprupedic?
