I am ohcheri and I approve this message (because I wrote it).

@ohcheri: you forget one minor issue: woot (now amazon jr.) wants everyone it can get to show up at their website. they don't care if you are legit or not, just as long as your cc clears.

vote-for20vote-against

@moosezilla: I sure anyone making a purchase will be using their correct email address. It irks me that someone can create a fake account and come in here to cause trouble. Maybe they get banned and but the next day they're back using a different name but same attitude.

vote-for22vote-against

If the site had no merchandise to sell and it really was a forum, then yes, doing a confirmation email makes sense to me. But woot is actually a store that has forums and they might lose sales if people have to wait for a confirmation email before they can buy something.

vote-for18vote-against

@squirtle456: That is a good point, especially when things (less now than before) have the threat to sell out quickly and someone could lose out on the opportunity to purchase (not less sales for woot, but an unhappy customer) during that process.

However, I also agree that what @ohcheri points out is a problem, especially if someone decides they want to target specific individuals or just be a general nuisance.

A confirmation won't fix anything... go to 10minutemail.com. There you will have an active email account where you can confirm your email then 10 minutes later the email address doesn't exist and you're still on the site! A confirmation may prevent some spam but not as much as you expect.

Oh I see why you posted this @ohcheri... http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/6fbe27ac-f646-419f-ae19-39632fb0799c/save-20-on-all-costumes

Like my post right above says, the confirmation email won't help your cause, unfortunately.

vote-for7vote-against

@ohcheri: You didn't write this. @ohcheri2 wrote this, not you. You're not @ohcheri2. ;-)

vote-for10vote-against

@captainsuperdawg: I created a fake account so I could harass myself ;-)

I was actually accused of doing this by a prominent member of the WOOT staff. Funny how quickly I went from "respected retailer and member of the community" to "crazy, wacko, lunatic who creates fakes accounts to harass herself and then tattles on said fake accounts."

vote-for8vote-against

But does that mean someone could sign up with my email without me ever knowing? That would kinda suck :-/ @thunderthighs?

vote-for5vote-against

@ohcheri: I had no idea anybody around here was respected...are you sure?

vote-for10vote-against

@meh3884: You would know because you would get an Welcome to Woot! email. That's how I found out my harasser created a fake account...they used an ohcheridotcom email and I got the welcome letter.

(My server is configured so all emails using my domain name get delivered and, yes, I do get a ton of SPAM.)

vote-for4vote-against

@morriea: I don't feel respected sometimes but that was a direct quote from a senior WOOT staff member :-)

vote-for4vote-against

@ohcheri: Well at least you'd know, but still would be nice to be able to stop it before that. Instead of having to go through the hassle to get the account removed.

vote-for8vote-against

@ohcheri: RE: "crazy, wacko, lunatic who creates fakes accounts to harass herself and then tattles on said fake accounts." Please tell me you have taken this up with TPTB. Because, even if it were true (which I doubt), that is something that should never be said to a customer!

vote-for6vote-against

@gionot: Words were exchanged but I did not get the apology I felt I deserved. Oh, well, life goes on!

vote-for3vote-against

It will get boring at some point, and they will go away....just a small storm to weather. :)

vote-for4vote-against

@ohcheri: You are a badmofo and a bad mamajama...whatever that is. :)

vote-for4vote-against

@xdavex: I know, right? I should grab that domain...

vote-for7vote-against

@meh3884: Not if your email is already in use on another Woot account. But if it's not, yeah they could create an account with your email but that's the same as with any site really.

@ohcheri: I cleaned up the posts from the deal linked above. Sorry about that.

Any specific decisions about email verification would come @jumbowoot.

vote-for6vote-against

@ohcheri: "I am ohcheri and I approve this message (because I wrote it)."

Love your sense of (ironic) humor! :-D I am deeply sorry that you're being harassed. And the TPTB are not supporting you. Seems that's pretty common recently. Please don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Or Tonto, for that matter. <----disregard those names if you're under 50, you probably do not know who I'm talking about.

I, for one, do not have multiple accounts. There are many here that do, though. Not sure a confirming em would help in those cases. ::shrug::

vote-for5vote-against

@gmwhit: Thank you! Not to be a whiny-pants but I've been harassed since I walked in the door here two years ago. I'm still puzzled at the animosity but it helps to assume that most of it comes from jealous competitors who have no class :-)

vote-for6vote-against

I don't see it as whining; I see it as a legitimate complaint. But please remember, @ohcheri, you do have a lot of friends here and we support you.

vote-for5vote-against

@barnabee: Thank you! I know I have a loyal following and I do appreciate your support ♥

vote-for5vote-against

@thunderthighs: Nice try but the creep is back again.

vote-for3vote-against

@ohcheri: You have more patience than I do. I wouldn't put up with this crap. I see some of your older deals have been posted on SlickDeals. One had 2,313 views. I know you won't be ejected from their site. Have you gotten many sales through them? Bottom line, your business has been pushed to the bottom on DW, and I'm really sorry about that.

Edit: Here's a comment that was posted --> "Nice web site. Gonna have to bookmark it!"

vote-for4vote-against

@missellienc: I have seen traffic from slickdeals. Their rules do not allow me to post anything myself but if my fans want to post there I say rock on!

vote-for6vote-against

@ohcheri: Must have been someone that was mad that they were not invited to visit the day you do the photo shoots for your site.

vote-for4vote-against

i agree with you, it's necessary.

vote-for6vote-against

Yes, I agree there should be confirmation. Someone could make an email account using the domain I own and I'd never know it.Through some social engineering, they could likely take over my account.. get me banned... etc...

I any case, with the prevalence of scams, cons and identity theft, email confirmation is at least an initial step at protection.

vote-for2vote-against

One downvote? Hmmm...wonder who that could be...

vote-for3vote-against

@ohcheri: Please don't rush to judgment. ;-) Remember, there are those who have everyday IDs that you recognize, and also have a sock puppet account or two. Remember the song Smiling Faces ?

I do think a confirming em should be issued. Also, it's possible to find dup accounts by ISP. And reject those who attempt to join under different names. (Yes, there are multiple members of 1 household who are valid members - this can be confirmed, too.)

If woot doesn't have this capability, I would be shocked. They should be using it. IMO, they have it, but choose NOT to use it because they encourage multiple (same person) memberships so that people can buy more than the alloted 3 items. The 'friendly fire' fallout is what you're experiencing. And...what I mentioned above: sock puppet accounts.

vote-for1vote-against

This is Hilarious! Are you basically trying to make sure that all others put in the same time and effort into making accounts as you did? Im with you, I would love just HALF of the ppl who vote you up everyday to have their accounts verified but I dont see it happening. People like Matthew F. only vote for you and down vote everyone else and have never EVER added any deals. Thats suspicious to me and always has been. Are you even paying for being here? Hardly seems fair when others are sponsored. seems like your just bypassing the system. Maybe Im wrong...?

vote-for2vote-against

@moosezilla: Woot was acquired by amazon in June 2010, so what exactly are you complaining about (now amazon jr. statement) since you joined in February 2011, it's all the same to you.

I'm sick of the crying baby trolls always complaining about 'amazon' this and 'woot is just a front for amazon'. GIVE IT A REST. Woot is owned by Amazon yes but still operates independently as do DOZENS of other websites. Scroll to the bottom of the main Amazon page and see all the affiliates.
