Would a police officer actually arrest you for using an automatic knife in IL?
There was an attractive Boker Kalashnikov knife that I wanted, but the website said it was a felony to own in Illinois unless I was an authorized dealer or provider to private collectors or members of the military.

I would say yes, as that would be part of his job. And a felony arrest may mean a bit larger feather in his cap.
I wouldn't chance it.
You might want to consider an assisted opening knife in the $30-$40 range. I've got a Ken Onion scallion with a serrated blade. It opens very quickly and is probably legal in your state (up to you to do the checking though)...
