An official from the medical examiner's office for Martin County, Florida confirmed with TMZ they received a call from Martin Memorial Hospital informing them that Jones had passed away.

A rep for the singer tells us Jones suffered a heart attack at his home this morning ... and was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jones is survived by his wife Jessica and 4 daughters from previous marriages. He was 66-years-old. Jones was married to Jessica Pacheco -- his 3rd wife.

Jones joined The Monkees in 1965 ... along with Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork ... and together they churned out a bunch of hugely popular songs including 3 number 1 hits -- "Daydream Believer," "Last Train to Clarksville" and "I'm a Believer."

Who is going to inherit Davy Jones's Locker?

Just saw it and came here to ask the same question. The article is only dated five minutes ago!

So sad. Just like Marcia Brady, Davy Jones was my favorite Monkee.

@bnbsouthworth: remember how corny most people considered them for decades? but then in the 90's they got a little respect.

Damn - coming in here to post some witty "clean out his locker" joke and it was already done.

Oh well RIP.

Maybe they will change the name of the song Mr. Jones to Davy Jones and Me in memorium.

Just heard about that. Only 66 years old.

Saw a news alert and dashed out of my office to tell everyone. Only one of my employees didn't respond with, "Who?" Fortunately I was able to round up a few others who were Monkees fans back in the day, and we had a quick sing-a-long of "I'm a Believer" and a few other songs before I had to leave for a meeting. So very sad.

No one is really posting memories of Davy, and maybe that's because most of you are so much younger than me. Ah, well. Let me start off by posting one. The Monkees hit the tv screens and radios when I was in elementary school. Davy was the cutest, but even then I was taller than him (I had an early growth spurt, dang it!). I had a huge head shot poster of him on my bedroom wall. When I changed clothes in my room, I always did so under my nightgown or dashed into my closet to change so "Davy wouldn't see me." LOL! When he, Mickey and Peter did their first reunion tour, DH took me. It was still terrific. I'm so sorry to see that we've lost him.

I watched the Monkees all the time and was DIE HARD in love with Davy

This is so sad. As I get older more of my favorite stars are passing. I know it's to be expected, but it's still sad.

@eyeflytwohigh: That was funny, unless you was serious, then it wasn't funny LOL

@bnbsouthworth: OMG! Marcia Brady was a Monkee! I didn't know that!

All kidding aside, RIP Davy Jones and may whichever deity you believe in bless his family.

Man. RIP to him. I was wondering why there were so many Monkees threads today. Guess this explains it.
