In some categories I'm the minority and some the majority.
I'm surprised that only 6% are under 25. I was in the that 6% a few days ago and had been for almost 5 years. I wonder how those statistics have changed over the years.

As Meatloaf says, "...well two outta three ain't bad."

vote-for2vote-against

it is google info, I wouldn't necessarily call it reliable. I don't know how they determine educational level with users, as I have never identified my educational level to woot or google.

vote-for2vote-against

they also state that people were searching the woot site for christine odonnel (the witch thingy politician I believe). It was a big saerch on teh interwebz, but not woot (unless someone hammered this site too.)

vote-for4vote-against

I've seen this before, and made the same comments before. Unless I go out of the way to point it out, I fit in the demographics that google is storing. Except that I'm not male. Seriously. I also don't think of myself as middle class (as rude as that sounds, in our forced egalitarian society, where we're all supposed to be equal, even if some people are more equal than others).

I block all sorts of things, especially all the analytics crap. I loathe google analytics; such an invasive and useless and evil piece wart upon the face of the internet. Oh, dear. I'm violating my rule about posting before caffeine.

The activity on the AtW/AtC side was heavily weighted towards the female spectrum. This was true almost from the beginning. I've seen us referred to, dismissively, on Twitter and elsewhere, as "The Girls" (and other things). I'm stopping now, but I may return to this. Google does not know all.

I know I'm going to regret this comment later...

Female, older, classless!

Well, as I'd said, I knew I'd regret my earlier post. I do. To make up for it, here's some real fun.

Yes, it's true, my dears. Your banks track everything you do. There are doubleclick tracking cookies even in the most private areas. Some banks even use miniscule flash elements so that they can store flash cookies. Isn't that cool?

In addition, this may also be of interest to some of you.

There's an original post out there from Snapster, which this was a follow up to.

Shrdlu - have missed you and the vast store of knowledge and interesting places you go on the net. Both browsers are set to wipe all sites and info. upon closing. However, the other day I wandered into the system files and there are sooooooo many websites listed, etc. I was going to erase them all, but thought I might be doing something vicious to the system so chickened out. A search with keyword "cookies" brings up nothing. Sly ones. I do a run temp and run %temp% every once in awhile and dump stuff out of that.

vote-for3vote-against

I nominate @shrdlu to host a webinar titled "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Getting off the Grid."

Unlike @klozitshoper, I wouldn't even begin to know how to "wander around" my system files.

vote-for1vote-against

@foonatic: And only a complete idiot would go there anyway - eh, what? correction - only an intelligent, inquisitive mind would go there! I seriously destroyed my very first computer by changing a lot of stuff in the system files - very uncool thing to do.

vote-for1vote-against

@foonatic: My reply above refers to going into the system files NOT YOUR SUGGESTION about @shrdlu conducting a webinair whatever that is. It would be nice to know how to disappear from cyberspace and creep in and out of certain areas. I have a friend who uses a site similar to unfilterme to hide the IP. Have not tried that at all. I was afraid it would wander around my computer!

vote-for10vote-against

@foonatic: I have no interest at all in the brief but unwelcome attention such a thing (webinar: "A webinar is a neologism to describe a specific type of web conference") would bring me. In addition, it is known that I do not suffer fools, gladly or otherwise, and have little patience for same. Note that I currently have notification of mention by name on. Please consider whether I actually need to see what you are saying when you use it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_conferencing

Really, Google is your friend, dear people.

Bond, James Bond. At your service (and no, this account has no mention by name notification, thank goodness).

vote-for2vote-against

@klozitshoper: Well, I guess somebody peed in shrdlu's Cheerios, so forget that idea. I've tried out a couple VPNs, but haven't found anything that would be workable for my everyday surfing.

Google/Skynet is not my friend, but they haven't harmed me (that I know of) yet.

vote-for4vote-against

@foonatic: Not at all (although the likelihood of my eating Cheerios, with or without a lacing of human waste, is zero). I made some useful and informative comments, and have been wanting to make the point of mention by name before. The two of you just made a convenient entry for that comment.

I should point out that the reference to "fools" was not a reference to you, but to the title of your suggested presentation (a fool isn't exactly an idiot, but it was close enough to lead to the comment). The reference to Google had to do with another's statement that they did not know what a "webinar" was, so I pointed it out.

Google is not Skynet. Even Skynet is not Skynet (http://www.skynet.be/).

I did not mean to be unkind, merely wanting to discourage the use of the mention by name for casual reference. Every now and then someone actually needs my attention. Save it for then. Thanks.

vote-for1vote-against

To quote from another's post here: " The reference to Google had to do with another's statement that they did not know what a "webinar" was, so I pointed it out."

Some of us are not so adept at googling while replying to comments, Some of us do not realize that the mere mention of a name triggers a notification to someone who could possibly be annoyed, some others of us should be flattered to some degree that their reputation for superior knowledge has been duly recognized and is respected. Some others could be annoyed that their name is not even used but referred to generically. Different strokes for different folks. From my end anyhow no worries. Message received and filed for future reference. The aforementioned post required NO ATTENTION from anyone or anyone's representative. Duly noted.

"another's statement that they did not know what a "webinar" was, so I pointed it out."

Fully aware of Google, but in course of conversation, rarely stop and open another browser to go there. You may refer to me by my name, however. It does not bother me in the least, but then again, I do not have many people who use it as you undoubtedly do from many areas around this vast area known as the web. Tried to send you a PM, but guess I am blocked. Nothing more to add. And so it is.

vote-for4vote-against

Klozitshoper, I read your private message. I responded to it, and then, after a few minutes, I deleted my side. To my knowledge there is no way to block the receipt of private messages over on Woot. I could be wrong, of course, but I certainly have not blocked anyone, no matter how deserving.

[Edit] The comment count seems to be off on this Question. I have counted the comments over and over, each time a new comment has been added. Currently it says that my comment (this one) is the nineteenth, and yet I only see eighteen.

vote-for1vote-against

Hmmmmm - I originally typed a reply and when I went to submit it, I got the error page. I could not navigate away from it, and the little indicator kept showing the page as loading. I closed out of woot and went on to read my email. I wonder if that one could be what is the extra in the count. I did not address it to anyone - it was general. The PM I sent, when I went to check to see if it had been answered showed as "not available" under reply, so I deleted mine. The site may be having problems?? At any rate, I really do, no kidding, think I will register as another1 if there is nobody using that. I like it, I really do. Klozitshoper is old, misspelled, and worn out.

(edit) to clarify, the unavailable showed where I checked the message, not in that there was a reply that was unavailable if you know what I mean. In addition to the above, when I got that error message and the site hung, I could not close out of it except by using task mgr.

vote-for4vote-against

klozitshoper, unavailable just meant that I'd responded, and deleted the original.

vote-for1vote-against

Thanks. But then there was no response to read, right?

vote-for4vote-against

another1too, please, don't do this. Extra accounts are just confusing, and keep people from being able to see your other posts (as klozitshoper). My response would have been there, but you deleted it. I will not respond further on this, not in public, not in private. Enough already.

@shrdlu: Quote: "(a fool isn't exactly an idiot, but it was close enough to lead to the comment)"

well. getting a bit personal, are we? (you and james and flounder, I mean)

: )

vote-for4vote-against

@f00l: Damn your eyes. I was going to ignore this (which is really and truly the right thing to do), but you made me laugh. I thought, even at the time, that there was no kind or polite way to say that creating a new account in an effort to start anew was not quite the same as creating a goofy account (theflounder) to make commentary for making my friends laugh. James was created for an entirely different reason, which I'm not going to mention here (I'm really tired of being edited, so I'm editing myself). It's just now convenient to comment with Mr Bond as an alternative, when I'm trying to keep a low profile. Yeah, I know. Too late.

I do want to point out that in earlier times, the Fool held an important place in society, and you know that I'm fond of you as well. Don't ask me why, but there it is.

I wonder if we shall ever see poor flounder again. I can't quit being sad.

vote-for2vote-against

In a mild effort to respond on topic...

The "Audience Interests" section makes absolutely no mention of skimpy unmentionables. Obviously their data is suspect!

Sometime ago I posed this question. Do you understand flash cookies?
http://deals.woot.com/questions/details/eb5838fd-1235-489c-b4bc-adf05a22d5b6/do-you-understand-flash-cookies#4
The point is do you know how to protect yourself against some aspects of tracking cookies, that most of you were unaware that existed?
