Did you see M.I.A. flip "the bird" at the Super Bowl?
I watched the halftime show and didn't even notice it but the media seems to be making a big deal of it today. Yahoo even ran a hit piece on her describing a "history of bad behavior" basically consisting of one other incident.
While I think she was wrong to have done it, it seems kind of overblown to me. If you scroll down to the comments section of the above-linked article you will see some serious vitriol.
Unless they have cleaned it up by now, literally dozens of racist comments about her. Kind of funny in a way because they seem to think she is African-American when she is actually Sri Lankan. The comments denouncing her actions are 10x more vulgar than what she did, if you ask me.
So, did you see M.I.A. flip the bird? Were you outraged?

I honestly didn't even see it happen live, but if you ask me it's a tasteless move to do. Just stand up there, lip sync your song and then go away.
I agree, it was a tasteless move probably pre-planned as an attention grabbing stunt and in that regard I suppose it worked if you're from the school of "any publicity is good publicity".
didn't see it
Saw it on YouTube this morning.
Very classy. Not as bad as Madonna's lip synching, but still up there.
@wickedd365: lol, in fairness to Madonna I'm pretty sure she was live when she said "I'm sexy and I know it". I thought it was kind of strange the way they ended it with her singing "it feels like home" as she got sucked down below the stage.
I hadn't noticed, nor paid attention to it for that matter.
On a different note, when I click that link it sends me to http://autos.yahoo.com/new-cars.html. I see that when I hover over the link that I should be sent to something different. Am I the only one seeing this?
Who is "MIA"?? Serious question, I've never heard of her/him/it.
@djp519: I thought it was just me.
Did not notice either. Concerning lip syncing, I would like to see a person even sing twinkly twinkle while dancing around and not sound out of breath. I'd rather hear the song sound good than know it is truly them. I mean, they recorded it to begin with while standing still. She did stop syncing when singing with Mr. Green.
@djp519: She did "Paper Planes" several years ago, you've probably heard it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sei-eEjy4g
As for the bird, I thought it was embarrassingly try-hard.
I didn't mind the fact that they were lip-syncing, I was just annoyed that they were SO off...
I saw it happen, and really didn't care. Come on, it's 2012 already! I think that's a lot tamer than a wardrobe malfunction.
I personally have been a fan of M.I.A. for years, and it really doesn't surprise me!
@chipgreen: I don't think we were supposed to see her sink below the stage. I think the effect was supposed to be Madonna being enveloped in smoke and "disappearing" but the smoke blasts were a second late.
i was watching the whole thing and also didn't catch it, but i saw the late blur by NBC and wondered what happened. they blurred the feed a few seconds too late i guess. i didn't even recognize it was M.I.A. until after when everyone said she showed her middle finger and i thought OH that was her?!
Oops, I guess that was the same link...... don't know why it's redirecting - can I post tiny url like this
Cripes, sorry... what a cluster-munch!
woot doesn't seem to like the tiny url either you'll have to google yahoo m.i.a. middle finger if you want to read the article and/or view the comments
@chipgreen: Might be good to find not Yahoo! links for these things. :)
As for me, "saw it on youtube, rolled eyes, moved on".
MIA is a one-hit wonder from Great britain who had 1 song chart well here in the US about 3 years ago
@inkycatz: thanks, inky - I think that was the appropriate response. I seem to remember another question link from a week or two ago that redirected itself to the yahoo autos page. Trickery on the part of Yahoo?
@chipgreen: yahoo's still mad that amazon bought woot and that woot isn't selling their sellout.woot line on the Yahoo Shopping homepage anymore. sore losers :-P
I was looking at faces and missed any hand gestures. It just reeks of a look at me, I'm hard core stunt.
As for the network apologizing for the vulgarity, have they watched any of their regular programing? Sheesh!
It's a big non-issue for me. It should be like that for everyone.
