We just got a new toaster oven for Christmas - a Breville with all sorts of features and niceties. A nice upgrade from our old one, a Delonghi with mechanical dials.

I don't have any weird gadgets really, I try to avoid single use things, as I have a small kitchen. I do have a pretty large mortar and pestle that we use for guacamole that's pretty cool - the inside of the bowl is pebbly, so it does a really nice job of crushing everything while keeping a texture different from baby food. We have a mandoline too, does that count?

I love kitchen gadgets. I think, in my next house, I will sacrifice a living room or dining room and have a double sized kitchen. Perhaps one like Guy Fieri's, I think.

Oh, thought of one - I have the meat grinder and sausage stuffer attachments for my Kitchenaid mixer. Handy, and can do a lot of things. Quick/easy/fresh salsa, amongst many.

@dcalotta: i thought everyone who has a kitchenaid mixer has all the attachments. how can that be weird? now as for using them regularly that's a different story.
i have several of the as-seen-on-tv gadgets (got as xmas presents from inlaws). i don't recommend a single one.
i do have a very large wooden spoon from pampered chef my sis got me 13 years ago. because it is thick enough not to break while making cookies i love it. (same cookie receipe will stop my kitchen aid pro)

@moosezilla: I wish I had a) the funds and b) the space for all the attachments. :( And counter space to leave the mixer out all the time. Alas, I have none of the above. Woe is me.

@dcalotta: sorry. mine sits on the bakers rack next to the cabinets where it remains pluged in with attachments sitting inside it. most of my attachments came from resale stores (very rare and hard to find)

My favorite...
Burr coffee grinder
Coffee Pot
Mixer (I do have a KitchenAide Stand Mixer that is kept on the baking rack)

My Ninja blender. Could not live without it!

I love my Mr. Coffee Keurig single-serve brewer. Use it almost daily.

And I recently got a bread machine and have been making copious amounts of homemade bread. Which is not only delicious, but makes the house smell amazing.

I think my new favorite is the Cuisiniart Griddler. Paninis and pancakes with the same device? Yes, please.

@sunnyx0r: I love my bread machine. I use to use it every day, but now I use it to mix the dough, but I prefer to bake it in the oven. My daughter prefers to use the machine instead of the oven, so I will be losing it when she goes off to college in July. But I have my stand mixer which does well with bread.

Burr coffee grinder.

My two favorites are my Kitchenaid Mixer (it stays plugged in and on the counter because it's used multiple times each week, but I don't have any fun attachments) and my immersion blender.

Odd favorite would be my grain mill. I love it, and grinding gluten-free flours is so much cheaper than buying flour! I tend to grind outside though, much less dust.

Favorite? My old Toastmaster Grillerie. It's the double-sided contact grill that predates the popularity of the George Foreman grills. It can open up to a full 180 for an open griddle, detachable plates makes it easy to clean, and it even came with a cake pan to bake a cake (or brownies) in it.

My Nespresso machine - I'm addicted....

As for the oddest one ... for $5 at Goodwill, and absolutely just for the hell of it, I bought a Hello Kitty electric hot water pot. The Zojirushi is the one that sits on the counter, though.

Runner up ... probably the quesadilla maker. Paid $3, brand new in the box a year ago; it's still sitting in the box.

I love my toaster oven and George Foreman grill. Great for making meals for one or two people. I use the Foreman for things like hot dogs and grilled cheese as well as meats.

In the non-appliance category, I have a dough whisk (google or search Amazon) that I use whenever I'm mixing up batter for anything. I don't quite understand how or why it works better than a regular spoon or whisk, but it's perfect for making brownies, small batches of cookies, bread dough, etc.

I too love my toaster oven. When I lived in an apartment by myself, I cooked everything in that; never even had a microwave until I moved in with friends. My next favorite things kind of go together; my rice cooker and wok.

Aside from the coffee maker and the microwave, my most used appliance is a hot water pot with a temperature control. I use it to heat water for instant soups, different types of tea (which need different water temperatures for best results) and just about anything that needs hot water. It sounds like one of those things you don't need until you have one and suddenly can't remember how you got along without it.

@gt0163c: thanks, I've seen those dough whisks and couldn't imagine what they could be good for. Now I think I need to pick one up! BTW, this strange little whisk is terrific for emulsifying dressings and sauces, and for quickly combining things like honey and lemon juice: http://www.amazon.com/Norpro-2362-7-Inch-Mini-Whisk/dp/B000E39LYY/

My indispensable appliance is a Braun immersion blender. Curiously, I bought it because of a infomercial. Even curiouser, Braun now appears to have abandoned the North American market.

My current favorite non-essential appliance is this lovely manual milk frother: http://www.casadimoka.com/MilkFrother/FraboskLimpidio.htm
