What do you Like/Dislike the most about Woot's new site changes?
Well... Is this what we have been waiting for? I'm liking the nice neat access to the Woot sites at the top of the page... I'm not liking that I can't post any deals this morning, although I'm sure that will be corrected soon...
What stands out to you?
Minimum 5 characters for City name? What's that. I live in a place with four letters. Lots of places are spelled with less than 5 letters. Stupid field edit requirement!
This is a beautiful new site, it may be a little crazy at first, but it makes me proud to see the growth because positive stuff is goin DOWN, MAN!
@omnichad: OMG. You are right Woot is awful. This may be the most ill conceived remake of a website......ever!
What I don't like. Woot was a 5 second site. Now it's a morass of never ending offers, and a 30 minute slag through never ending mountains of offers to review. It's not woot anymore. It's another crappy sight jamming as much junk in front of us as possible. It has watered down the enjoyable Woot concept and made it indistinguishable from so many other websites. Too many new rules for us, not enough rules for Woot. Here is a rule for Woot: If it ain't broke don't smash it to smithereens. I guess Amazon is mortal after all.
You should add a checkbox to filter out RIP deals in search. I usually don't want to search deals that don't exist anymore. unless i'm looking at comparing prices old and new. but a checkbox solves both issues!
Your home page has a "ad.doubleclick.net" ad at the top banner and it is driving my popup blocker nuts. Half of the top offering page disappears when top banner appears. If I click on an offering further down the page the next page comes up complete. DROP the top 'doubleclick" banner on home page!!!
Biggest dislike -- making me click "read more" to see the full write-up (as well as all of the really pertinent product details) means that 90% of the time I just won't bother.
Just come to Canada already, Geez it's been years.
I still hate that I cannot edit, reply, delete, upvote, downvote, etc etc from my iPad or iPhone when those are the two ways I access woot the most. I hardly ever visit woot anymore because it is so aggravating not to be able to navigate as I wish without being on an actual computer.
Well, I thought it had been a month but the posts say 19 days. No changes, even minor like getting all the product information on one page, or getting rid of the vertical real estate hogging headers that continue to waste space went you scroll down. Why do I have to proclaim I want one, just to see the rest of the product details?
Woot. I am disappoint. (sic).
I don't like all the extra woot plus deals on each page. It's not very woot-ish. Now woot looks like any other site with a whole bunch of crap on it. The one-deal-a-day excitement is gone. Maybe you should change the name to yawn.com.
@lazarus2: Part 2 of 2
.
After all, why do we need Amazon Lite (WOOT!)? We have the full version, and it offers more than this version of WOOT! can ever hope to offer !!
It's sad. I used to look forward to midnight and the new tune/song (anyone remember them?), the crazy write-ups, and feeling I was sharing a fun place with like-insane folks - and of course, "One Day, One Deal" I might buy ~
.
WOOT!'s new owners think ""if we can find ways to bring you more cool stuff cheap (everyday with a plethora of links to go through, like our big business), it kinda seems like we should"" which goes to show you, the big Internet sales place (Amazon) has no idea what made WOOT! great and why people used to watch the clock to be the first to WOOT! and experience the craziness, and deal, that happened here at midnight.
Amazon Lite? Thanks, but no thanks. WOOT! has lost it's charm and there's a better selection at the full scale site.
~"Isn't Woot all about "One Day, One Deal"?
That's where our roots are."~
AND, that's the sales-niche the people who built WOOT! found worked great.
Unfortunately, it worked so great, a large Internet sales company bought WOOT! and in short order converted it into a "lite" version of their big Internet sales company. - Thus today, we have:
Amazon, a great Internet sales site of which I'm a member and have spent thousands of dollars and will no doubt spend more;
and
Amazon Lite (aka WOOT!) a once-great idea and sales site, where I've spent thousands of dollars, but doubt I will spend much in the future. The new owners don't understand WOOT!'s concept and why it appealed to so many crazy people.
.
End Part 1 of 2
And what's with all the ads? Especially the one that reads something like "iPad for $49, overstock."
I'll post this here, too-- The new site really sucks. Just sayin'. Too choppy, no flow. It's like you hired a bunch of kindergartners, gave them snippets of crap and a glue stick and left them in a room for a couple hours. Sure you have some of the same things on there, but you keep adding more, moving stuff around. woot.com should be focused on the main item of the day, but you have a 400x600 section for the main item and blocks of random stuff all over the rest of the page.
-- I see some people say things about switching between sites, but tabs are so over done. The thumbnails on the right were just fine for getting between sites. Someone's been overthinking this
Why is everything so gray?
Where's the bright and cheery design that I fell in love with?
The redesign sucked everything that was warm, friendly, quirky, or appealing out of the site.
I used to recomment Woot, in person and in my radio broadcasts, as a "quirky, it's a kick and there are some great deals there..." site.
Now that the redesign has taken all of that out of the site ... it's just another raging, in your face, discount site. Nothing to recommend, in person and certainly nothing to recommend on the air as "fun and different."
My vote ... worst that total fail ... but actually destructive
>641 people who all pretty much Hate the new design. Don't forget to read them.
Yes, just a few dozen more and Woot will be forced to create another parody song mocking the people who provided the feedback they requested.

641 people who all pretty much Hate the new design. Don't forget to read them.
In short, I Hate it.
I like the ideas.
I like the tab changer at the top.
I like the $5 all you can ship.
I hate the new web pages. I used to click on the shirt and get to see a clear ENLARGED pop up. Now i get another page to load then I have to pick which picture I want to get a REGULAR sized view of the same shirt. Extra work for no extra gain = FAIL.
I HATE being asked to log in just to look a a shirt. If I want to buy it, fine, I'll log in but otherwise, why do I need to log in? What do I gain for it? What do you? I haven't needed to log in over the last 2 years that I have been buying shirts, why do you need me to now? Assinine choice made by a person white a corporate dip stick up his rear.
I hate the white background. Too bright, makes my eyes hurt. Go Back to black.
In short, keep the business changes. Put your site back like it was a just tweek what you have to. This new look sucks long & hard, and only gets worse each time I open the page.
I find myself not coming to Woot as often since the update. Sure I like the top nav, but that's about it. I don't like the busyness--there is way too much going on. I don't like having to click to a new page to view the details. Woot is a deal-a-day site at its core, that should be front and center.
Woot grew to its size because of the deals on good products, the pleasant simplicity of the site, and the quirky write-ups. You have lost the simplicity in the complex, busy redesign.
Stick to your roots and make the core Wooters happy.
what stands out to me? Woot changed from a simple, rather clean site to an oversized, busy mess. I don't like it. The navigation between sites is a little improved, but everything else about it sucks.
What do I like? The tab across the top, even though it's a bit annoying in its sensitivity.
What do I dislike? Everything else. It still feels like a poorly formed April Fool's Joke. Except that it's still here, a week later. Pity, that.
"It takes months to find a customer, but only seconds to lose one.
The good news is that we should run out of them in no time."
[Stolen from Despair:
, although I'm sure it's not original with them, either. It's just so appropriate. You may have to do a copy/past on that link. Woot's rewriting things again, and it gets hung up on the way to Despair (which is kind of funny, in a sad way).]
So it goes.
@omnichad: 100% agree. Old woot was simplistic, nice, but not "basic". I don't understand what I'm looking at now, I can't just visit for 30 seconds and know the daily deals. No good.
@omnichad: yeah, and maybe they could add a classic view button to that clutter and I would be happy lookiing at the old version.
Perhaps I just don't like change, but after navigating the new site for a week, I find the character of the site is no longer engaging compared to the way that it has been since the beginning. I realize the simplicity of the old site was a big part of its charm. It's gone from fun, light-hearted and a little mysterious, to just another overwhelmingly busy-looking site trying to sell you lots of different products. I don't bother reading the content on the right because it doesn't visually engage me. I haven't read the community forum since 1) I haven't noticed where to find it, and 2) it no longer seems the focus of the site. The only new features that I've found I like are the tabs at the top (brilliant), and the single shipping fee for the day's purchases. I really want to like it, and perhaps I just need more time, but that is how I feel at this time.
Like: $5 for all you can ship.
Dislike: Everything else!
In a nutshell it's way too busy for my taste and seems to have lost alot of the fun Retro-Woot personality. I agree with others that simple might be better. I do like having easy access to previous Woots all in one place.
Please oh please, add a simple ship to option so it's easier to send items as gifts.
This is a perfect example of:
"LESS IS MORE"
The look is too cluttered, too busy! It overwhelms my eyes, I can't focus. It used to be easy to check Woot sites for their daily deal. Now it is time consuming and not something many people want to approach.
Not user friendly at all. You used to be able to see all the information you needed on one page, now you have to click on multiple locations. You even have to click on the home page to get to the Woot page with all the information.
Fire the people who came up with this new format!
Where is the woot!plus page? Is there one?
Next to the price you could put a "cheapest we could find it for on the web price".
Oh Noes! You have fallen into the corporate belief that you can change markets! NO! There are 347,000 web sites that you now resemble! All of them are junk-filled minefields for the eye. WOOT! was the ONE spot where I could go and get a funny story, an occasional good deal (I already have a vacuum cleaner.) and move off to my business.
WOOT! was most folk's home page when they call up their browser. This present travesty of committee mismanagement positions you right OUT of your target market into competition with 347,000 similar sites. (Check out Tiger Direct to see your new competition.)
I'd probably just be ranting if I didn't have 33 years marketing and positioning background. OK, I'm still ranting, but ranting with confidence. Don't become the "New Coke" of retail.
@aaronshall: No, moofi still exists:
@omnichad: You are not the only one. The new design brings tears to my eyes, and not in a good way.
It's like Woot said "how can we look more like Yugster?
I would have liked tabbed access to the existing Woot page designs. Other than that this is change for its own sake (well, and to allow further erosion of the one day/one deal concept -- I don't mind that but wish it would have been handled differently).
Where's the one item for sale? I see so many now. Where's the witty description? Oh it's hidden on the side? Does it load on my tablets? not really...
If i wanted to see a whole bunch of items for sale on a website I'd go ... say... anywhere else.
If I want a simple site that sells one cheap item in a category per day, I'll check daily steals or something.
I see that the "List Price" has made it to woot. I thought the community did a fine job of finding the actual list price of items themselves...
I've bought a few woots... and for the most part I check all the sites once a day and follow the wootoffs...
That's pretty much over with this layout. If someone mentions a decent woot I'll pop in but I definitely won't be checking the site daily in it's current layout.
The Stuff you Bought layout is horrible as well. It was nice having links to the blog and discussions. I just want a list of stuff I bought, not 51 pages of big images and less information.
I fear change and your change has made me frightful. Due to the nature of my cubicle job, I have no place to "flight" to in my "fight or flight" emotional response to fear and have lashed out at the next cubicle over, causing an extreme situation here at the office cubicle.
On top of that I haven't had a drink in days and you have been sold out of these CamelBak Hydration Packs for a few days now and I am starting to weaken from dehydration.
Please don't make me die stuck in this horrible cubicle, revert back to the woot I know and love!
The new site will take some time to get use to, but is a good step. The two main things I would like to see added are...
1) Condition of item on the main page
2) Price and condition added to the hover drop downs of the other sites
As some other Wooters are feeling, this homepage is too cluttered! I like the idea, and the new look, just wish it was a bit less cluttered. Even the page that gives the details of the product is much more confusing and too full.
I like that you can see and access the other Woot sites much more easily, and that when you hover over the button at the top of the page for the other Woot sites, it shows the merchandise being sold. I also like the new feature, Woot Plus. Thanks for the added deals of the day!
All in all, I have to congratulate Woot for the new look, and good luck with it! Hopefully the more I use the new site, the more I will get used to it and find it a little less intimidating!!
If it's not broke why fix it?
Too busy. Too many distractions. No longer the unique deal-a-day site that was about an awesome deal a day, even though there are now four or more. I prefer to browse the deals through the old interfaces on my phone.
There are some minor improvements, but overall, I'd say - a major step away from the cool Wootness of being.
Here's an idea: Move Woot Plus to Plus.Woot.com. And get it off the main page except for a small box like the other Woot sites have. Or used to have.
@asahel01: I wish I could upvote many more times on that:
"What I like is the page displayed when I click the small read more link. I shall call this the real product page. The real product page is very slick and the tabs to switch between top comments, product specs, and sales specs is slick and quick. I prefer it to scrolling way down to see what was in the box. The real product page is what I would like to see as the front page to each of the Woot pages and the current front page moved to the read more link."
@jt4703: Also note that mouseover features don't work with a touchscreen.
Loving the new redesign, I'm really digging the woot + area and the simplified navigation around the sites.
The only thing I dislike is that accessing the website on my blackberry is a lot less clean than the old version, i.e. graphics are distorted, takes longer to navigate.
Fonzie, meet the shark tank. Woot, it was nice while it lasted.
Awful. Mixed font colors and sizes, scrolling marquees. Is this Geocities?
In this day and age, companies like Apple are becoming popular for their simplified approach to UI, and you guys come up with this clusterbomb?
This seems like design by committee. Mr. Headhoncho and Mr. Supervisor sat down some poor UI designers and made them revise this mess into what it is. Either that, or the UI designers are completely incompetent. Either way, you all should feel ashamed.
Then again, I haven't seen many good deals since the Amazon takeover, so one more nail in the coffin of my impulse purchasing days.
I really don't like not being able to find the "Sling a Monkey" game!
The "Stuff you bought" link at the top is kinda neat.
Cloudfront is suck though. One of these days I'll block it entirely...and wind up spending more time away from the computer as more and more companies jump on its bandwagon.
I'm sad. The destination is still worth going to (at least as far as I can tell), but the site is far too busy. I feel like Woot tried to out Fisher-Price Windows XP. I think I now have eye hernias.
I am not someone who is schooled in design so maybe I'm full of un-knowledge. However, my feeling is that the ease of use is gone. The Woot Plus yells at me louder than the actual product you're Wooting. The click through to get to the product information is just horrible. With Real Woot (which is what I'm calling the previous design), I could look at everything and make a reasonable decision on most items without having to guess. Now, it's hidden. Should you even be putting the "I want one" button on the front page? Even cluttered Amazon has a reasonable location for the specifications and doesn't slap your eyeballs with random other crap that's takes up more screen space than the item on sale. I guess the final question I have is this: why is this new layout better than the old one?
