CONT. When I went by this morning, I quickly realized how close the fire was. There was charred trees about 30 feet from my truck which is about 1000 feet from my front door. At this point, the fire has grown to 28000 acres and is threatening several cities. Luckily no homes have been lost but many are damaged. It is 20% contained and they hope to have partial containment on Monday and full control may 13. Please keep the students who live in the dorms in your thoughts. They have not been allowed back on campus and many are currently staying in shelters. They hope to get the students back on campus by Sunday.

@conanthelibrarian: Thanks for your update. I've been worried. I added a quick comment to your previous question so that people would be directed to here.

Stay safe.

@conanthelibrarian: wow. Scary. I'm glad you are ok. You say you went by your house --- are you still officially evacuated ? Here's hoping the fire is under control and everyone is back where they belong very soon.

@conanthelibrarian: Man, CA fires can be a b*tch. So glad you're okay and your home isn't damaged.

@ceagee: We were let back on the campus but this afternoon one of the buildings caught on fire but they did not evacuate us. It was quickly put out. The firefighters working this are amazing! over 900 men and women from as far as San Francisco (8 hours away) are working to contain this.

@conanthelibrarian: Thank you so much for your update. I'm relieved to hear you and your home are all right, and I hope to hear that the campus (and the displaced students) will soon return to normal.

UPDATE: the fire has reached 28000 acres and is 56% contained. All evacuation orders have been lifted. The winds have died down and humidity level has gone up which has been a huge help in fighting this. Light rain is expected tomorrow evening. Students will be allowed back in their dorms Sunday at 5:00 pm. I took a walk today to survey the damage and can't believe we are still standing. At some areas the fire reached within 10 feet of buildings. I'm still shocked my truck was not destroyed. As large and as destructive as the fire has been, only 15 homes have been damaged and none have been lost.

Sorry I messed up, My suggestion "Think rain think rain lots of rain over the fire" had unexpected side effects. I am under a flood warning.

For those of you interested, the fire seems to be fully contained with no houses lost (almost 20 damaged) and no lost lives. The fire departments in California did an outstanding job and I am so thankful for all of their hard work. I cannot express the gratitude I have for all of them.
