Newegg is as legit as it gets. I don't have any experience with the other two you mentioned. So, I can't vouch for them

vote-for22vote-against

Unless it is clearly a gag deal, I personally only post from sellers I do business with. I have bought at least a dozen items from Newegg, including my DSLR, and have never been anything but happy with them.

Newegg did have an issue with some counterfeit procs a short time ago (see http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2361104,00.asp). But they admitted fault, made right by their customers, and put extra procedures in place to prevent a repeat. My kind of company.

[Edit]: I'm not even sure it's fair to put the other two companies in the same category as Newegg. Newegg is a full-blown retailer, while the other two are deals sites (Woot ripoffs, if you ask me). Meritline is a closer comparison to Newegg.

vote-for15vote-against

Another vouch for Newegg, my whole extended family go to them for some screaming deals. I have not purchased from the others, 13deals or 1saleaday, but as often as their deals are posted here, if they were not legit, you would here the wooters screaming. I did order something from Froobi and never received it but had no problem getting my money back.

newegg is a 2 billion dollar a year retailer (although a super low margin one) that filed for ipo last year http://techcrunch.com/2009/09/28/neweggs-ipo-filing-reveals-the-financials-behind-a-2-billion-electronics-retailer/ they are known for their efficiency/pricing/delivery and above par customer service.

vote-for8vote-against

@snapster: If you want above par customer service, I know of this great website that only sells one item a day. They're fantastic. :)

vote-for8vote-against

Ditto. Been using newegg for years, as well as friends and family. Usually I search there for any tech-y stuff before looking around for deals.

vote-for6vote-against

@loosecannon67: What? What did you mean when you said "2 legit" please? It makes no sense.

vote-for9vote-against

Newegg (as others have said) is a bona fide, trustworthy retailer. I've never done business with either of the others, nor would I (just personal preference). I've used meritline, but they cannot be considered in the same bucket as Newegg. Meritline dropships from Hong Kong, and things are often repackaged items, or slightly beat up items, but I don't care. Their prices are cheap enough that I buy stuff as goofy gifts for friends (all of whom would think that a stubby screwdriver with 20 interchangeable bits is the best thing ever).

I'm not even aware that Newegg sells refurbished items.

The fact that we haven't heard complaints about the other two only means that the complaints were handled (probably). We don't really know, one way or the other. They're more like Woot, and not really like Newegg at all.

vote-for9vote-against

@shrdlu: Newegg does sell refurbs (clearly marked, mind you). I posted a Sansa clip refurb deal at one point.

Meritline is funny. There's the dropshipped cheap junk they ship from China (I have one of the screwdriver sets myself). But the merch they sell out of their U.S. warehouse is good product. They have great deals on Jansport backpacks, for instance. But you're right-- the comparison to Newegg falls a bit flat.

vote-for5vote-against

@heymo: Well, there you go. I had no idea (about the refurbs). I don't buy things from Newegg, but I have multiple friends that do. I tend either to buy from CDW, or to take a road trip to Fry's. My Cisco came from CDW. I've purchased a computer or two from Woot (I needed a Vista machine, and it was cheaper to buy the computer than to buy a full install of Vista and sacrifice a running machine). I'm probably going to buy the current POS from Woot today, because it has Win7. I just never heard of that MB, which made me feel kind of iffy.

vote-for4vote-against

@heymo: The only complaint with Meritline is that their crystal jewelry isn't Swarovski. It's either a form of imitation, albeit very good imitation or shipping rejects they got their hands on.

Newegg is excellent but as I've heard, returning things is a pain. I've never had to return anything, knock on G10, so I haven't had a bad experience.

I think we got some disguised onesaleaday/13deals shipping issues, but I think they got resolved.

vote-for7vote-against

If I recall correctly, I bought one inexpensive item from 1saleaday. Everything went fine. I would buy from them again for something extremely cheap that I wouldn't think they could mess up. Otherwise I would think long and hard about it.

vote-for4vote-against

1Saleaday is TOTALLY legit. I have bought a few things from them, plus they sponsor deals here and Woot would never put us in harms way!

vote-for2vote-against

@abramokids: Didn't they sponsor the cameras that dailycheckout sold that they did not have?

vote-for3vote-against

@catbertthegreat: that was dailycheckout.com I would never buy from them there always seems to be an issue with their deals and the excuse is almost always that there was a hold up in China.

vote-for7vote-against

Newegg has always been great in my opinion. Additionally, I've had experience with 1saleaday and never had a complaint, can't say I've had experience with the third company however

vote-for2vote-against

@catbertthegreat: I do not particularly like MC Hammer. I know the piece though.

vote-for3vote-against

@catbertthegreat: Wait, was the mc hammer reference something to do with the "hammertime" comment? if so, I STILL don't get it.

vote-for5vote-against

@shrdlu: "2 legit" and "hammertime" are lyrics from MC Hammer's song: U Can't Touch This.

Sad to say that I would consider this and obscure reference, considering I used to listen to this song back in the day.... What was I thinking.....

vote-for5vote-against

@ravelazquez: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pm49Pqx9eaI Glee covered this on Wednesday. I was flipping through to see if anything interesting was on. My retinas have been reburned by the hammer pants.

vote-for1vote-against

i know Newegg and 1 sale a day are legit but never heard of 13 deals

vote-for10vote-against

Let me add my vote for Newegg not being in the same category as the other sites. I'd be more appropriate to compare Newegg to TigerDirect or BestBuy online. Have bought more than my fair share of goodies from Newegg and it's always been an easy, pleasant buying process.

vote-for4vote-against

@ravelazquez: Ooooohhhhhhhhhh........

Thank you for explaining. I would simply NEVER have understood the references. I suppose it shows that loosecannon must be in his thirties, since that mc hammer stuff seems like it's from a very long time ago.

vote-for5vote-against

13deals and Ihavetohavethat are sister sites. I have purchased from I have to that, it is okay, but they are copy cats of Woot. It is a legit site as far as I can tell their deals are okay, deals.woot has had them as sponsored deals and we haven't heard complaints over here about orders gone missing like on other sites. coughdailycheckoutcough

vote-for5vote-against

@hobbit: Sometimes you make me laugh. You just tried to make coffee come out of my nose. Still, laughing is a great way to start off the day.

vote-for5vote-against

@hobbit: Oh..... My.... DOG!!

FANTASTIC!! Now my retinas are burned too....

Guess the reference wasn't as old I as I thought it was. MY BAD (is that still cool to say?)

vote-for8vote-against

@ravelazquez: No, "2 Legit 2 Quit" was a song unto itself. Hammertime is from "Can't Touch This," though.

And don't forget the requisite hand gestures with the phrase "2 Legit 2 Quit":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cdk1gwWH-Cg
(Skip to about 5:50 to see it)

Also, @droc112: Jaw agape I was really taken aback by your question "sites like newegg, 13deals, and 1saleaday" doesn't make any sense.... One of these things is not like the others.

I know many have jumped in to point out that Newegg is a very reputable retailer, but wow. That's akin to asking if Walmart is a fly-by-night company.

vote-for4vote-against

@ravelazquez: I never said My Bad with out feeling old, only students ever said it to me, I felt it was poor grammar. I think they could have done the song with out the pants though.

vote-for8vote-against

@hobbit: if they had done the song without the pants, they would have gotten fined for indecency ;)

vote-for2vote-against

Doesn't anybody think it's ironic that the kids think the music is cool and the old lady is appalled? I mean, they can't possibly remember Hammer -- if anybody is going to appreciate it, it's the old lady!

vote-for3vote-against

@1rudeboy: but the old lady liked the music she wanted them to sing at her church.

vote-for4vote-against

I have been using newegg for years and it is my #1 shopping shop for p/c products on net! 5 stars.*

vote-for1vote-against

i have used all three of the site and i was fairly happy with them...

vote-for2vote-against

Newegg sponsored a LAN party at my college, so they're legit to me. I think they are legit.

vote-for4vote-against

I've used all three. Newegg is the computer retailer of choice! the other 2 are just different flavors of deal-a-day site, I've used them too.

vote-for3vote-against

I've been ordering from IHTHT (ihavetohavethat) affiliated with 13deals since last year. I've ordered several things. My only complaint about them is they take a long time to get stuff to you, but it always arrives.

I ordered something on 13 April that's supposed to be here on 11 May. They also have random things to buy... they had a "mystery stocking" at Christmas, and several "mystery camera cases." It's kinda like a boc, but there's not as much competition.

vote-for4vote-against

Newegg is legit and I've purchased quite a bit from them. We had some issues with bad disk drives, but they took care of the problem. We found out later that the particular model drive we had gotten was prone to bad sectors straight from the manufacturer. Not sure about the other two sites as I've not dealt with them.

vote-for5vote-against

I've had mixed experiences with 1saleaday... orders canceled a week later after my card was charged.. a refund was received, but it took a month.

Other times - i would order something and the order would simply disappear. no charge - but still a shady way of running a deal a day site IMO.

plenty of other times - there would be a price mistake after they already took a ton of orders...

again - any of these things happening could be an isolated incident... btu all of them happening, and more often than once is a product of bad business, not technical glitches.

They are located in brooklyn - i drive past the building they reside in every day in fact... so i was never too worried.. i always have the "angry person showing up in person" thing working for me if they ever ripped me off.. but with that said, i've also received orders from them, and shipping was decently on time, etc.

i don't shop there very often any more however.

newegg is very legit.

vote-for1vote-against

@anotherhiggins: I realized that it was from a different song soon after I posted, but I wasn't sure which one. I figured that someone would post the correction if it was important. Thanks for the video. I somehow never even knew there were hand gestures to go along with this song.

@hobbit: Same here. I tend to lean towards sarcasm and quite often have difficulty getting that across in written words. Even when it was "the thing" to say, I was not a fan of "My Bad".

@melonberree: I wonder if they had to have all of those pants made, or if someone actually had some laying around somewhere... Did you ever see that episode of The Simpsons where they bought MC Hammer's old mansion and they found a bunch of parachute pants in the attic? HAHA! Homertime! :)

vote-for2vote-against

When I build a machine I order the majority of parts from Newegg.com. I've been shopping with them for years! They are a great retailers with some of the fastest shipping around (recently most items are almost literally 3 days from order to door -arrive on 4th day), though with a lot of items they arrive in separate boxes from various distribution centers. I've had issues with them, but returning an item has been easy for me if I got a DOA item or something that seemed defective.

13deals is also a decent site. I've only ordered a couple of things from them, but no issues or complaints.

The other I have no experience with.

vote-for3vote-against

@catbertthegreat: "
Newegg is excellent but as I've heard, returning things is a pain. I've never had to return anything, knock on G10, so I haven't had a bad experience."

Not to call you out specifically, but as general info for anyone who has to return something, returning something to NewEgg is not a pain. The only pain comes from having to box up the item and ship it back, which yes it's inconvenient. But it doesn't get any easier to create the RMA, they do it instantly, so you immediately get email confirmation and authorization to return the product, and then if the item is actually DOA, you do an online chat with customer service and they will email you a pre-paid shipping label even.

The rare times when I have had trouble with NewEgg, a simple email or phone call resolves any issues.

vote-for1vote-against

To add on about the other sites mentioned, 13deals and 1saleaday, I ordered the Batman Dark Knight DVD deal posted a few days back, and that was the first time. I got an email confirmation, and it's shipped but I didn't receive it yet.

It bothers me that so many sites are out there that are blatant rip off's of Woot, I guess that's good since there are more deals out there, but some of the sites are just trying to hard to copy Woot, that makes me steer clear of most of them. I usually prefer actual retailers like NewEgg or Amazon to buy online.

vote-for3vote-against

I actually have that CD at my desk right now.

Hopefully it will inspire some (lucky?) future BoC recipient to put on the Hammer pants and dance.

vote-for1vote-against

Yup, another vouch for Newegg.

vote-for0vote-against

PS - it says 0 woots, but i used to have a different account!
