Challenge: Cheapest 1x4GB DDR2 800 240-Pin non-ECC
I want to bump my maximum RAM up for the motherboard I just bought. I already have 2x2GB, and ultimately want this thing to have the maximum supported 16GB. I can get 2x2GB for around $50 if I buy used, but that would be a waste when I start moving to 4GB sticks. I can't afford a 2x4GB matched pair right now, so I just want to get a single stick for the time being, and then get another as I have the cash. Best on NewEgg is #124.99 shipped. Can you beat that?

If you can beat Newegg, it's not going to be by much. Wouldn't you rather just stick with the best? You know nobody else is going to fulfill and ship as quickly as them and if the RAM is DOA, Newegg is just super when it comes to RMA.
@1rudeboy: No disagreement on that. My main problem is I have sourced 2x2GB at $50 on Craigslist, but if I buy those now I will ultimately get rid of them in the future. I can even get a stick off of eBay for about $115, but that is only $10 cheaper than NewEgg. If there happens to be a source that sells for below $100, even if it were only $95, that would be a lot easier for me to rationalize than $125.
4GB just isn't enough, but bumping to 8GB with 2GB sticks feels like a waste. Maybe I should just pay the extra now so I'm not paying more long-term.
@apfrehm: I feel the pain too... I know exactly the type of rationale that draws out those debates of when to just hang in there, and when to upgrade your tech toys. My problem was that with everything that I required, I simply couldn't go without upgrading a few major components the last time around, so I decided that it was time to go the whole way and update the entire system, CPU, motherboard, GPU, RAM, and all...
If you're still anxious about having wasted the money, I'd say to just go with the two 2GB sticks from Craiglist - 4GB is typically sufficient, and if you really, truly think that you need more, then consider upgrading from the ground up. It's not worth spending that much on RAM that's only going to last until you soon thereafter replace the CPU/motherboard and it becomes obsolete.
