questionswhat's on the board for memorial day weekend?

I think, given this week (or month), I may just hide under the bed.

Going campin'! I love Memorial Day Weekend, usually marks the beginning of nice enough weather to venture outside here in the PNW :) Here's to hoping it doesn't rain on anyone!

Spouse is working on Saturday, and after he's off we're going to celebrate his birthday with my son and his wife.

Other than that, nothing at all is on the schedule.

Skiing? Seriously? It's 96 here today. I'll be hosting the usual cookout at my place. Pork ribs, bratwursts, hot dogs, burgers, grilled corn on the cob, Caribbean black beans, potato salad, cole slaw, chips, sodas, beer. This is going to be a busy weekend:

Participate in small parade for Mental Health Awareness with my dog
Go see Epic with friends, followed by shopping and lunch
Pack up dog and go to far side of town to play Champions with my friends

Go see Fast and Furious with friends, followed by shopping and lunch
Attend surprise birthday pool party

Epic cleaning event at my house
Host role-playing group at my place

Host Memorial Day cookout for approx. 20 friends

Um, work?... just Friday through Sunday though. I'll probably grill out on Monday.

Saturday: Get irrigation sorted out for the season, get a front end alignment for the grocery getter, clean office, later cruzin' with the Mustang guys, then a movie.

Sunday: Maybe attend car show, work on home computers and network, clean house, movie (maybe movies) later.

Monday: More cleaning house and yard work. Maybe a nice seafood dinner.

Friday through Sunday, I'm hoping absolutely nothing but laying in bed all day and reading as many books as possible. Reality, though, will probably guilt me into cleaning the house, doing yardwork, laundry, etc.

Monday, though, is paintball! A group of us is leaving at dawn (the place is two hours away) and it'll be an all-day thing. Going to have to rent a gun, though, since my brother's gun that I always use got ruined in our basement flooding a month ago. I mean, sure, I could just finally buy my own, but laziness prevails. Dunno who's driving, though. Usually it's me, but it's been raining all week and the fields are going to be a bog and I'll be damned if I'm allowing five mud-covered, stinky people in my pristine little hatchback darling at the end of the day. Ugh, I'm probably going to have to bring 30 towels and scream and moan all the way home about my filthy car. Maybe they'll buy my dinner, then. Hmmm...

@goldenthorn: Tell everyone to bring a change of clothes and shoes. The paintball place surely has bathrooms where people can change. Bring trash bags for wet/muddy clothes and shoes. People will be more comfortable for the drive home and more welcome in the restaurant or other stops on the way back if they are clean and dry. If changing clothes doesn't work, cover seats and floors with dollar store plastic shower curtains.

Arrested Development Season 4!

Or you've made a huge mistake....

@moondrake: Yes skiing! There are few places in this world you can pull off the big three mountain sports all in the same day (skiing, climbing, biking) It should be quite exciting.

@msklzannie: there's no rest for the wicked... :p I haven't had a day off in the last 36 so I know the feeling!

I'm taking a road trip to San Antonio (about 6 hours). I'm spending 2 nights hanging out on the Riverwalk and making a complete pig of myself.

Celebrate Dad's birthday at his house. Going to fry some snapper (6 pounds), frog legs (5 pounds), grill some boudin along with hushpuppies, fries and onion rings. Also, going to have fresh veggies from his garden. Sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, etc.

Going to be a feast to say the least.

@moondrake: Yep, we always do and bring all of that. I've only been paintballing for a year meow, but my brother & friends have for well over a decade. We go to this one place in the middle of the woods in bufu nowhere. The only privacy is in disgusting portapotties, & it's always a grimy flailing flamingo hopping madness clothing-change. Cuz after a full day of woodsy filth, mud, & paint... well, there's no amount of towels, clean clothes, or baby wipes that'll make us presentable... or my poor car not a disaster. Yet my car has the best mileage & the biggest trunk, so my car it usually is.

Hehehe, but I am always amused by the stares & sniffs we all get when our motley group of paint-splotched, mud-caked, brackishly-odoured faux-warriors goes out to eat afterward. Plus, the next day, my bruised skin becomes this gorgeous canvas of sunburst fireworks. And the adrenaline rush of live-action FPS-ing is indescribably awesuuuum. So, hah, I'm actually super-excited despite my whinging!

This weekend, I'm running a 5k race with my fiance and dog, Chloe!

It's a 5k, where all the proceeds go towards promoting the awareness of the pet overpopulation problem and supports efforts to change the future for all homeless pets through education, rescue, sterilization, and adoption.

It'll be interesting =P Chloe is a puller!

One thing I really appreciate about the move from St. Louis to Seattle is that there are no chiggers in Seattle.

"After crawling onto their hosts, they inject digestive enzymes into the skin that break down skin cells. They do not actually "bite", but instead form a hole in the skin called a stylostome, and chew up tiny parts of the inner skin, thus causing severe irritation and swelling. The severe itching is accompanied by red, pimple-like bumps (papules) or hives and skin rash or lesions on a sun-exposed area. For humans, itching usually occurs after the larvae detach from the skin"

Nasty little buggers.... So, hello NW outdoors!

Sounds like some great plans. Sunday my sister and her hubby driving in for the day @3hr. drive for picnic at the house. My folks are not well, so that's the best we can do. My mom gets too confused with very many people. She used to be the one that had the neighborhood or all their group of friends over for a party. Not many of them left, Those that are, aren't in a great place.

Hoping the rain stops so I can get some of the zillion flowers I bought in the ground. I always go a little, er, a lot crazy at the nursery buying up flowers and herbs and such. I got some tomatoes only because I saw a hard to find variety that we love and nabbed them. Otherwise, my dad still does all the veggies.

@davidschronic I wish I was going on your Mammoth trip. Sounds wonderful. There's nothing like late spring skiing.
Everyone's BBQs sound great too.
Have fun everyone ! Safe Travels.

I get the weekend off and am in need of a table so I will be building one for my first DIY project!

Going for a darker stain though. Thinking a Walnut stain. Love opinions if anyone has any.

The weather has cooled off nicely here and I think the rain is over, so it's time to uncover the hot rods and take them for a spin. I have been a terribly neglectful car-mom lately due to family obligations.

Also drain and clean the hot tub on Saturday. So a little fun, a little work.

I forgot to mention: Monday, the first thing we do is make sure the flag is hung properly.

Honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Clean and decorate our house today.
Our Big Annual BBQ on Saturday.
Clean and pack on Sunday.
Get on a plane on Monday. Have In N Out in Las Vegas for lunch.

Somewhere in there, stop and say a few words of thanks and prayers for the people who died defending our country and the ones who still are at risk, while I have parties and vacations.
