Do you downvote someone who comments that a post is a duplicate?

I do if the comment reads like it's being thrown in the poster's face. There are ways to word things to get the point across wihtout sounding like a jerk.
@mikecris: I usually just say dupe: [provided link]
I think I'm in the same boat. I'll upvote the dupe comments but I'll always downvote someone who isn't keeping it civil.
I don't bother commenting. I guess I'm just a tattle-tale instead.
nope, they're giving info to the poster. If that hurts theur feelings, they need to get off the interwebz.
This is what caused the question. I think I was civil.
I don't think I've had a problem when I say "Duplicate: (link)"
I think why you got downvoted was that you said it was a duplicate of an expired deal. If the deal was previously expired, and it comes up again, I think the person that found it has a right to post it as a new deal. I think you may have been fine if you didn't mention the expired part.
Thanks for noticing the duplicate though. I see duplicates all the time and get tired of trying to see who posted first and quit after a couple.
When I find a dupe that isn't already commented as such, I first tattle it and then post a comment stating "Dupe of: link-to-prior-deal"
The deal you sited as the prior one had been RIP'd and therefore the deal you called a dupe was not actually a dupe. (My question is why the prior deal had been RIP'd if the deal was not actually dead.)
I wouldn't have downvoted your dupe comment. I might have posted my own comment had I judged it worthy of attention. (I didn't.)
@baqui63: I agree with you except the deal was the same site on the same day for the same price.
This is just a single example. People seem to think it's petty to post that a deal is a duplicate and downvote you for it when things like that are really integral to the running of deals.woot.
I leave them alone typically. I'll tattle on them and provide the link to the mods, but I don't usually make the comment and if it already has been made, I'll simply let it be. No upvotes no downvotes.
I believe dupe-comments are in line with the consensus on procedure for this. As such, I think it's ridiculous to downvote them. (I went and upvoted your dupe comment.)
That said, this place is starting to remind me wayyyy too much of high school. (blech) I wish people would vote on dealiness, helpfulness, etc... and not just rage on people for disagreeing with them. (Or at least not downvote for it.) Course, I'm probably guilty of that to some degree myself.
I almost always tattle and then comment something like,
"Sorry but it looks like @jimmyd103 posted this one already,"
link to the earlier post....
If this offends someone than I think we are truly in the 'end times' :)
Your comment shouldn't have been down voted. And the earlier deal shouldn't have been rip'd but if it was then the post wasn't really a dup. I've been getting dup'd like crazy lately, i'll leave a simple dup - link comment and tattle. No harm no foul I think.
I prefer to receive a dup comment so I know what happened when my deal disappears. I do a search prior to posting a deal but often the search doesn't turn up the original and I accidentally duplicate. I would never deliberately duplicate a deal.
