Useful cheap GPS?
Ok, clearly I am not spending enough time around here. What a shock from my heady days as a black triangle to being an orange. Anyway, enough of my reputation pity party.
Can you all help? I have an au pair arriving here in two weeks and I would like to get her a simple to use GPS since obviously she will be clueless about getting around the DC area. It needs no bells and whistles, just a solid GPS with up to date maps that is relatively easy to use and cheap. I would like it to talk and maybe be convertible from meters to miles.
I think that is it? Anything else I should be looking for since I am so GPS ignorant it seems.
Thanks and btw, how is everyone?
Erika
I would go with one of these 2 for $55.
Solid units.

Get a gps phone, she will prob want to make calls also.
@thefenst, thanks I will take a look
@jeffyn, hmmm, I am going to get her a cell phone but I don't want to pay for a data plan. Is it possible to get a cell phone that has a GPS without having to pay for a data plan?
Erika
@ecommerceerika: I think they have smart phones on the monthly plans.
@ecommerceerika: I would get her one of the GPS units I mentioned and then a cheap phone with no data plan.
@thefenst: Sort of agreeing. Do you know anything about Tom Tom or Garmin factory refurb? In the Dyscern days I think we refurbed these items so I am not really familiar with their refurb quality. Which reminds me, perhaps I should check my former employers website...
@ecommerceerika: I have actually had both types of refurb and prefer the Garmin.
I have one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B001ELJ9QK/sr=8-1/qid=1310666678/ref=olp_pg_used?ie=UTF8&coliid=&startIndex=0&me=&qid=1310666678&sr=8-1&seller=&colid=&condition=used
and a blue tooth enabled feature phone since I don't want to pay for a data plan when I'm around computers all day...
So this unit is my GPS and hands free speaker phone...
I know absolutely nothing about it, but this one just showed up for $40

@jamesbottomtooth: Sorry to hear that. The TomTom XL 330S is now on sale.
