Dumb question #372: How do I post links to the forum? Or format text?
I've noticed that if I put a URL in a question or comment, it'll show up as a link--e.g., http://deals.woot.com. But I see a lot of commenters adding links with text other than the URL. When I try any HTML-like code, I get a li'l message saying that "HTML is not allowed". Same goes for formatted (bold, italic) text, which I also see in the forum. What am I missing?
put the text in brackets and the link in parentheses like so:
[text] (link)
note: don't put a space between. (i put one in there so it wouldn't format it as a link)
bold text = 2 asterisks before AND after what you wanted bolded
italic text = 1 asterisk before AND after what you wanted italicized
And
bold, italicized text = 3 asterisks before AND after what you want to be both. <---awkward wording :-(
Wouldn't this be a nice addition to the long-requested FAQ tab?
Not a dumb question. In fact, a question that I've had recently. So, thanks for asking.
Here's where I asked this question recently
The second response (from thunderthighs) explains it all.
"The only stupid question is the question you don't ask.
-unknown
Also, If you want to actually make the asterisk VISIBLE use a backslash:
\ *example*
Annnnd (funfact): You can FORMAT text that's LINKED!
Italics
Woot!
Bold
Woot!
Combo
Woot!
Do it just the same way you would standard text, except put the asterisk's inside of the brackets.
I was wondering, is there a format for coupon code boxes?
One like from this deal? http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/bf98c63b-c999-419f-9117-2c7b932c9fec/25-off-orders-over-15-at-limogs-jewelry I know this is a sponsored link, but I could've sworn I saw one on the regular deals.woot post from someone but I can't remember which one.
Funny thing is also, I just figured out that * is italics and * is bold/italics... I've been using just ** the whole time until yesterday, lol.
I like your username. I love The Guild. Hilarious.
@pwknowles: I don't think "unknown" ever met my son.
