similar to your garbage can candy in taste and consistency, shaped like little cylinders the size if a pencil eraser.

Oompa Loompas. Although PB M&M's are pretty close.

@jmattoon: They still make these, but they're harder to find and called "candy sticks" or something like that.

Funny. I "smoked" candy cigarettes, gum cigarettes, chocolate cigarettes, and licorice pipes. I pretended (and still do pretend) that pretzel rods are cigars. I chomped on Big League Chew not even knowing it was a takeoff on chewing tobacco.

And yet, I am completely tobacco-free. . . maybe it has less to do with candy and more to do with my parents and school educating me about the dangers of smoking, as well as my complete inability to inhale without coughing up a lung.

Astro-Pops. They went extinct about a decade ago. A start-up bought the rights over a year ago and has been promising new pops for quite some time, but they have yet to deliver. http://theyalwayscomeback.blogspot.com/2008/01/astropops.html

@kamikazeken: Ah, powdery sugar pellets... soooo good....

@druke: Hey now, my question was certainly inspired by that one, but Garbage candy is not my favorite candy; it's very specifically my favorite candy that was discontinued probably 35 years ago and that I will never, ever get to have again. And I like to talk about it. And didn't want to hijack a different discussion to do it. But you are very correct as to my influence.

@jmattoon: I had a friend that got hold of some gum cigarettes that were wrapped in paper and let out a puff of powdered sugar if you blew into them.

@curli76: Weren't Astro-Pops made in Mexico? It's too bad they're gone, they were great too. Always seemed a little dangerously pointed, though.

Toffifay. I guess it's still around because you can buy it online (with outrageous shipping) at some pretty big name retailers, but I haven't seen it in a long time. A little cup of chewy caramel with a whole hazelnut inside filled with soft hazelnut chocolate, with a dollop of dark chocolate on top. I am going to be making an Amazon order soon, I'll have to see if I can get a box on free shipping there.

@zofer11: You can still get Bottle Caps in the Wonka Mix Bags. Just had 5 little bags of them from the Easter Egg Hunt. I also have dibs on all of them on Halloween! My kids hand them over without me even having to ask.
