Is there a better price on Turbotax Deluxe 2013 (Fed & State) than $39.99 at Amazon?

Was getting ready to purchase, figured I'd ask if anyone else had encountered a better deal before I go ahead and plunk down the $.

Is there a reason you want to go specifically with TurboTax? I've used TaxAct for a few years now and have had no issues at all. I think the interface isn't quite as slick, but it's way cheaper and it gets the job done. The first time you do it at TaxAct, just do the free federal + state for $15. Next year do the deluxe + state for $18 and they import all your stuff from the prior year. Saves quite a bit of time.

Been looking for a better price, too. I use turbotax cause it lets me buy once and use it for my parents and brother, too. TaxAct or others might let me do that, too so if I don't see a better price I might look at a different product. Importing last year's returns make it super convenient, though.

@rockytrh: I've been using TaxACT for several years now too, as far as I can tell my tax refund is the same (within a few bucks) when I use Turbo Tax or TaxSlayer. I always sign up for the "free until you file" versions of each brand to see if someone finds something extra. Usually never happens, I ended up buying the TaxACT Deluxe (including state and federal efile) for $13.95 in October. Good deal.

@75grandville: I'm willing to bet Turbo Tax pricelocks their products, you can probably wait until closer to the deadline in March or April and find a good sale on it for the procrastinators.

Most states have a free state e-file option that requires a little work, but it's free. So you may not need to get the Fed & State, which would save you money. Here's a forum that discusses the free state e-file in a little more detail: Boo-yah

Slightly off the mark here, but I have found price checking in general has been simplified with the Google Chrome add-in PriceBlink. Yes, you will have to use the Chrome browser, but if that is not an issue, it will tell you the best price and show coupons no matter what site you are on, so you know if you are getting the best deal. PriceBlink shows that $39.99 is about as good as it is going to get. As other have mentioned, if you are comfortable moving to a new platform, TaxAct is a good application.

I got a copy of H&R Block's deluxe software for free a few days ago. I don't know if that's still available but you can find the info on slickdeals.

The Fed & State allows you to prepare your State forms but it it will cost extra to actually file them electronically.

You can use the Turbotax.com website to do your taxes and it only cost $29 when you file your fed tax. It will even do your state forms but you will pay extra for State filiing just like the CD version you'd get from Amazon.
