Have you considered a usb sound card? I was going to turn a dell 2800 into a PC and use the USB for sound. It could not do the windows 7 aero engine and the PCIe video cards cost too much to be worth it.

The Asus Xonar is fairly cheap and works great. I think they go for about $30 on Amazon
