If you are only looking to stream media I would seriously consider getting a Popcorn Hour. I have been using their devices for years and although they can be a little buggy, I have yet to find another box that streams as well as Popcorn Hour. You can throw any format at the thing and it just plays and plays well. Over the years they have gotten "prettier" and the latest box they released (C-300) has a very nice Movie Database GUI. Check them out here:

@coondogg97: Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, my main purpose for this PC is to watch Verizon FIOS TV remotely. I'm purchasing a Vulkano Flow to stream the signal from my primary home to where I'm living temporarily (in an effort to avoid a second cable bill).

Thanks for your time!

@christophermjay: Build your own? I was looking online at NewEgg today.

AMD A4-3300 CPU with built-in graphics, $50
BIOSTAR Motherboard with HDMI out, $59
4GB, RAM, $20.

That's more than enough power for HD video. If you have a case, power supply, and hard drive lying around like I do, that's all the hard stuff. Total cost? $130.

Can't you just get/use a tablet with HDMI out? The Vulkano seems to support tablets.

@j5: I already have an iPad w/ no HDMI, and I figure I can use this box for surfing the web on my TV as well.

@omnichad: but when I add in the cost of a windows OS then I feel like a boxed PC is a better deal.

I would get a Lenovo IdeaCenter Q180
it's on sale for $299 right now.
If you get the one with the wireless keyboard, it's awesome.

I have the predecessor, the Q150. It's attached to the back of my monitor with the standard VESA mounting screws.

Actually, I amend my answer. The Q180 is an underperformer, but do look into a nettop form factor for your needs.

@j5: Thanks. I've been looking for a good net top, but for the prices it seems like a desktop might be the way to go.

Check this moofi link. Sometimes you can find a good deal on a refurb. Good luck!
