You need a custom jeweler - a craftsman - who either owns a private jewelry store or works in one. The stone cutting is an issue all unto itself - I would not want to have any stone of mine that was worth much cut. You should try to have the stone already in your possession used in the custom design. Draw up what you think you want and then consult with two or three appropriate professional jewwelrs. I have sadly experienced a stone that was switched on the bench at a jewelry store I had used for years. The new person who was working there did it. Oftentimes you do not find out about it until way long after the fact. I therefore request to be present during the setting of any stones I have or the repronging of any. Just a heads up because it is unfortunately a common practice.

edit - Florida is a big state. I do know a few excellent jewelers in SW part of the state.

@flashkill: "Central Florida" is still a very large area, although I understand and share any reticence about pinpointing your location too closely. Try a google search for [custom jewelry _ fl]. I checked using Orlando and found dozens of shops. Also try checking for [gem and lapidary] in your location of choice. That search turned not only goldsmiths and store-based merchants but also gem show agents. Gem shows are frequently good places to find a variety of folks who can do what you want but who may not have a sticks-and-bricks storefront.

For someone who is going to cut your rough stones, your going to need to find a Lapidary. I don't know of any in Florida, but I would put yourself in touch with a local Gem and Mineral Club. They will know a professional Lapidist. Here is a nice listing of clubs: http://www.rockhounds.com/rockshop/clubs/florida.shtml
Unlike settings, cutting stones is a not an as you wait process. It will take some time, depending on the stone.

For a custom jeweler, if you're close to Miami, there is a jewelry district bounded by North Miami Avenue, NE 2nd Avenue, East Flagler Street and NE 2nd St. There will be jewelers there who specialize in crafting custom waxes and perform the casting and setting.

These jewelers can custom design and fabricate anything. They are true artisans. I purchased my fiance's engagement ring here a few months ago and it is fabulous. She is quite pleased. They are just north of Palm Beach in Jupiter Florida. Ask to speak to Heather or Richard.

I hear Shane Company (http://www.shaneco.com) advertise on the radio all the time about doing custom jewelry, not sure if they would be able to do anything with gems that you provide, but it might be worth calling their toll-free customer service line & asking, if there's one in your area? (I know I heard them advertise when I lived in Orlando area, so they have stores in FL somewhere)

@giggleloop: I don't think anyone in there right mind would take anything of value to the shane company.

@fenstar: Hey, it was just a suggestion. I've never gone there either. But hearing their commercials all the damn time brought them to mind. So I guess advertising works.
