Perhaps this is a question better answered after all the games have been released?

Rent them both and decide which one you like better. If BF3/EA doesn't get their server issues figured out, this will make for an easy decision.

We're a Modern Warfare family around here, so I have MW on pre-order. I haven't played any Battlefield game, but it sure looks good. I'd like to pick it up and check it out.

But, just because I'm a fan of the franchise already, I'd have to say Modern Warfare.

I was going to rent BF3 until my friend stopped me after he did. He said you need to pay 800 MS points to play it online. I don't know if this was true, but i didn't want to risk it. I wasn't that big of a fan of the beta and I didn't really care for the second.

I will be buying MW3. I was a big fan of 2 and it looks like they made many welcome tweaks to multiplayer. I think the story line is pretty fantastic too.

I used to be COD only. BF2 was good, but the game play was a little coarse compared to the COD series. However, the realease of MW2 left a bad taste in my mouth. The multiplayer didn't live up to MW1 (maybe the best game of all time). I play on the PC, and there wasn't any way to run your own server or customize your game with mods. Then Black-Ops came out. I decided to give the COD some slack and purchase it anyway. It once again, was just mediocre and get this: The single player mode was really bad compared to ALL of the previous games. We could now run our own servers but you couldn't really do anything to customize the settings or install a mod.

I have purchased every COD game since it's release on the release date without fail. However, I think I'm skipping out on the newest release until all the reviews are in. Farewell COD series.

Hello BF series!

I've been playing shooters for a very long time. After BF2 I knew they could do better next time. While the story and co-op do lack (for me), the multi-player has been the most fun I've had in a while. To me BF and COD are two completely different styles of shooters, and I don't mean graphics. The game play and feel is very different and I personally enjoy the realism and class variation that BF3 gives you. I love that it is more about playing as a team and really thinking about what class you want to play. I'm sure others will argue but BF3 definitely won me over this round.

@ptucker2: If you buy the game, you don't have to pay anything extra, as it comes with an online code.

@woothulhu: I wasn't trying to buy it. I was trying to rent it.

Confirmed true the rental version doesn't let you play online on PS3, at all- from what I understand. (BF3)

I think BF3 caters more to the PC crowd, and COD to the Console crowd. They really are different games, as BF focuses on Conquest mode, and COD on straight up Deathmatch.

I also think COD doesn't allow to play as a team effectively. Squading up on rolling with some people on BF is where it's at. I gotta tip my hat to BF3, however I may be biased cause I played so much Black-ops, I'm kinda tired of the COD series...

Above and beyond Call of Duty!
I will not be buying MW3. BF3 is the best, most balanced FPS I have played to date.

BTW: The server issues are fixed. My friends and I were able to get in and out of games all night no problems.

They are two totally different games to me. I love the realism of BF3. Always been a fan of the battlefield series

I love both (assuming MW3 is similar to MW2, etc.) and have a hard time comparing them. BF3 is so impressive with it's complexity, maps and vehicles, but Modern Warfare seems to be a little more easy to play where you can simply have fun without a lot of work and development of skills.

I guess it's almost like comparing a simulation game with an arcade game. BF3 is a simulation while MW is more like an arcade. Both are great and can be enjoyed in their own respects.

Probably BF3 unless MW3 cleans it's act up.. I just hate being charged another $60 just to get all of the maps that should have come with the game. But I'm also pissed that BF3 screwed me out of Back to Karkland & the Limited Edition.

I gotta question though...is MW3 going to pick up where Black Ops left off, or pick up on the MW2 story?

(Just to make it clear though, I've been down with COD since the days of killin' Nazi's, rockin' BAR's and sniping with Mosin Nagants. So I'm down.)

@drchops: lol... the fact that my pro-BF3 comment got voted down within 2 seconds of posting goes to another thing I hate: COD kids.

Those whiny COD kids that play on Xbox Live get irritating as hell..

And guy that voted my comment down: This is a discussion about preferences, not a forum to talk about awesome COD is lol

@drchops: MW3's story picks up at the end of MW2.

@wickedd365: Played last night, and while Rush was fine, conquest was as rubber-bandy as it's been since day one, especially in vehicles.

vote-for2vote-against

@woothulhu: Odd. We played nothing but Conquest. Caught a little lag a couple of time, but no rubber banding issues.
I'm just happy I can get a squad together and we can all join the same game. I can work past lag and nonsense.

@daviscmd: Could not have put it better myself.

BF3 if you care at all about multiplayer, graphics, and gameplay. COD if you just want a game that's just like the last one that came out plus a few new things to keep you interested.

I've played COD since the beginning and after spending stupid amounts of money for the games and then the DLC, I decided to try out BF:BC2, loved it. It was everything I was hoping for.

So, instead of wasting my money on another childish COD clone, I bought BF3 this time around. And from what I can see so far, not only is it a better gaming experience, but the developer's actually care about how the game plays. They have been using feedback to update/debug their servers. Oh yeah! BF3 has dedicated servers, which means no stopping in the middle of a firefight because the jerk who's hosting rage quits.

In my opinion, BF3 is a solid investment whereas MW3 is like throwin you're money down a well with snakes at the bottom, maybe it'll be worth it, but probably not. COD is for kiddies, BF is for gamers.

vote-for2vote-against

@ae95160: lol...how would throwing money down a well with snakes at the bottom EVER be profitable?

vote-for4vote-against

@drchops: you never know, maybe those snakes are broker snakes and they'll invest your money in high-gain stocks.

I found BF3 to be a horrible game. After putting almost 1000 hours into Bad Company 2 and over 500 into Battlefield 2, Battlefield 3 was a massive disappointment. Aside from the bugs, the maps are about 5 sizes too small for 64 or even 32 people. Hit detection has been changed from server side to client side, leading to sometimes huge discrepancies in hit detection. On top of that, the game just doesn't feel like it's finished yet. I have never played a COD game, but I'm honestly thinking of scrapping my BF3 and trying out MW3.
