I've got no idea if they're reputable at all, but
http://www.thundercameras.com/products.asp?product_id=2427&dept_id=10004
lists it for $309, which seems far cheaper than elsewhere. Maybe that's a red flag, though.

Stick with name-brand shops. B&H and Adorama are my favorite. I've got a D70 and a D40x and have bought many lenses and accessories from both of these vendors. You may pay a bit more, but you're guaranteed good service without the sales-pitch phone call to try and upgrade you, that so many of these other services do.

A quick google of 'thundercameras' bring up some pretty bad reviews.

I agree when buying a camera of this caliper buy from someone reputable. The other stores will try to sell you up to a package that includes "extras" which are really just what comes in the box from the manufacturer.

Here is a great deal. Spring for the VR lens if you can.

That is for the body and two VR lens kit for 589 i think.

I'd get a D40. I've got one and love it. According to kenrockwell.com:

The Nikon D40 is a better camera for less money.

The Nikon D3000 is inferior both in operational speed and ease of use, as well as inferior in technical image quality. Specifically, the D3000 is about one stop noisier at any given ISO than the D40; the D3000 is as noisy at ISO 800 as the D40 is at ISO 1,600. While the D40 looks great at ISO 1,600, the D3000 is too grainy at ISO 1,600 for normal use. You have to keep the D3000 at ISO 800 or below for the best results.
.

You can get it here:
http://www.adorama.com/INKD40KR.html
for $375 with lens and free shipping(factory refurbished)
