Recommendations on a Wine Cellar?
I have been collecting a lot more wine recently... (been spending more than I should at Washington/Oregon wineries and of course those darn enticing wine woot-offs) So now I have about 30+ bottles of wine. About 10 of which I would like to keep for a couple years before drinking.
Back in St. Louis I had a 100+ year old house with a nice dry basement. However, over the summer I moved to Seattle and my apartment got quite hot for a month or 2 since nobody seems to have air conditioning here.
So, what should I be looking for in a wine cellar/cooler? I mostly buy Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrahs, but I have been wanting to order some of my favorite Montepulciano if I can find some on sale.
I would like to get something that holds about 30 bottles that will not break the bank. Is there a huge difference between the more expensive units and the cheaper ones?
First rule of thumb is always buy with a larger capacity than you think you need. You want it to hold 30 bottles? Buy some thing that holds 50. Remember that some bottles are a bit fatter or longer than usual and won't always fit straight in, so you'll need the extra space.
If you're stuck for floor space, you might want to consider a forward exhaust style so you can tuck it into a small area/corner.

I have no affiliation witht hese people, but do know them to be the most knowledgeable and straightforward resource.
