I wouldn't worry about offending the woot gods.

And, in fact, the woot gods demonstrably do care about the comments made in sponsored deals....

There was a sponsored deal a while back for a fuel-line magnet that claimed to improve gas mileage. MANY blackboxers, myself included, complained about it because it is an absolute scam that does not work at all. It's basically a way for a company to steal money from people who aren't so good at science.

Within a couple of hours of a lot of folks yelling/complaining, Deals.Woot had contacted the vendor, asked them to put up a different item, and replaced the offending item here on the site.

I haven't bothered looking at the sponsored deal you're talking about. But I agree with you - if it's a bad deal you should feel free to point that out in the comments.

Magnets! How do they work?

I saw that deal. I already got in trouble today. I didn't need more greif. Plus I didn't actually GET the deal. Given this economy and basically how we got here I didn't think the deal was a good one or a bright one but again I don't get a lot of real estate stuff. I was exceedingly careful when I bought my house, and I still ended up in a mess not from any mis deeds of the lender really just from lots of other things like employment hours and stuff like that. So since I don't know a lot about it I didn't comment because I am basically ignorant on the subject. If it had been in the community deals I would have probably done the same. I might have tattled and asked is this legit.

@wootfast: BFM, THAT'S how they work. Serious black magic.

I noticed the deal. It surprised me, but didn't bother me. Deals.woot staff do find good/interesting sponsors most of the time, and I figure they must have better deals on that site than other r.e. sites. But if we had lots of r.e. deals it would bother me.

Some people might still be thinking Deals.Woot should only have items that would be on the main Woot site. I disagree. I like having variety.

@anotherhiggins: yeah that's what i figured, i think if anything woot gods welcome any criticism about any deal as long as it is respectful.

@mtrgrl: i LOVE the variety, i like seeing what is next, it really is unpredictable and that makes it fun! the posted deal didn't "bother" me per se, just left me kind of disappointed.. such is life!

I think i was more bummed because some of y'all are the wittiest people i have ever encountered and i was anticipating a good laugh!

@thilderbrand20: I'm glad you pointed it out. I usually ignore most of the sponsored deals, unless one seems very worthwhile, but after reading the comments here, I had to go and read the comments there. My favorite?

"A whole new meaning to sellout.woot!!!"

I did actually try searching the site via zip code, and even in cities where I knew there were desperate home sellers, nothing would show. It seems like a scam to me. Even without magnets.
