Are, or are not, novelty undies acceptable deals? "The road is wide, stay in the middle", so sayeth Jumbo ("all told").

Others post novelty underwear deals. I feel I am being treated unfairly.

vote-for9vote-against

OMG! Stop it! My ribs already hurt, and you know this is just going to get you further into it.

You are such a trouble maker that you make me look like Goody Two Shoes. I saw a couple of your last deals (after the question you'd asked hit the aether), and you are just pushing the edge on everything.

I also don't think it was the original question that got deleted, so much as the announcement that (and I'm paraphrasing) "Fine, I'll post it again then" that did it. Here's hoping this comment doesn't find empty space once I hit submit...

vote-for5vote-against

Ah, the missing comments problem is back. I see there are 2 comments on this question but I can't see the comments. Wonder if I will be able to see my comment once I post.

vote-for6vote-against

@dosquatch: Weird. I saw this question with four votes, and now it's down to three...

@jazcat: I've seen the commenty thing for days and days. It's just one of those things that seems doomed never to go away.

vote-for7vote-against

@shrdlu: "you are just pushing the edge on everything."

I don't flinch from walking right up to the lines, but I think I'm owed a bit of explaining as to why my deal crossed one if OhCheri is the safe middle of the road. I certainly didn't stray that far from that example.

And, again, the product is hosted on Daddy 'Zon. I hate to think woot considers the merchandise sold by its parent "inappropriate".

vote-for4vote-against

@dosquatch: What you are posting is not in the middle of the road, it is on the edge of the road. Also, just because something is allowed on Amazon does not mean it is allowed here. For example, we do not allow sex toys or pornographic material on Deals.Woot. We have the right to moderate things that we feel are inappropriate. This is not just limited to you. We have removed other lingerie/underwear that we have considered inappropriate in the past. Novelty underwear is sometimes appropriate, and sometimes it is not. It is not black and white. Whether it is or isn't is up to the Woot team, and we will continue to make these decisions on a case by case basis.

vote-for5vote-against

@thefenst: " What you are posting is not in the middle of the road, it is on the edge of the road."

No, you are removing it which says it is OVER the edge. By what measure, for what reason? It is a novelty undergarment. It is not a sexual (or "adult") implement, and the product image showed no naughty bits. CERTAINLY not the elephant - it was on a manequin, there were no naughty bits to be shown.

vote-for5vote-against

@thefenst: I promise you I am not trying to stir the pot, but you know those "edible" underwear that Spencer's sells? Just how close to the edge would those be? I'm thinking it would be pushing right up close, but might be one of those mood of the mods items.

vote-for2vote-against

@dosquatch: It was removed because the moderators considered it inappropriate.

vote-for6vote-against

@thefenst: Yes, sir, I'm gathering that. I desire to have the whims of the moderators elaborated upon as I find their considerations inconsistent and capricious in light of other deals that are allowed.

Or would it help were I to change my name to OhHairi?

vote-for2vote-against

@dosquatch: No further elaboration is required. We will make decisions on a case by case basis. This is the final word on the subject.

vote-for6vote-against

@thefenst: So, the message is pretty much "eff you, we do what we want" - got it.

vote-for5vote-against

@thefenst: I said desired, not required. You are certainly not obligated to expound, but (so far) you've actually been one of the useful mods.

Whim over rule just seems wrong. And it's certainly fostered some discontent with the customers. Just sayin'.

vote-for4vote-against

@mnemosynescall: "If you're looking for where you went wrong, it might be the animal theme. Apparently non-animal man-thongs are okay."

I can work with that...

vote-for5vote-against

@thefenst: "We do not allow sex toys..." Not that I care, but Ohcheri was selling a lingerie set a while back that came with a french tickler. There was no opposition to that. I really couldn't care less about the subject at hand, I would just like to see a little consistency and equal treatment. As of late there have been far too many restrictions on this site as to what others can post, posts getting deleted, yadda yadda bing bang. Just make up your mind as to what can be posted and what can't and make these rules and restrictions clear.

vote-for2vote-against

@dcalotta: The message here is that there are shades of gray.

vote-for3vote-against

@codeman9090: Wasn't the tickler actually feathers on a stick and not a REAL French tickler?

vote-for5vote-against

@thefenst: Right, and thus far it appears that the particular shade of gray is stright out sexual bias, as women's horny-wear flies unmolested (as it were), but let a guy try to find a bargain on novelty drawers and it's over a line.

Unless there is some other as yet unspoken reason, and this would be the time to speak.

vote-for2vote-against

@dosquatch: The deal you just posted is perfectly fine.

vote-for3vote-against

@lavikinga: touche, it was just a feather tickler: http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/76a6ce2d-06b6-43d6-8b63-b1354c6494be/french-maid-lingerie-with-apron-cap-and-feather-tickler#8

Even so, I think this would still qualify as a "foreplay toy." So there you have it, foreplay.woot = OK. sex.woot = NOT OK.

vote-for5vote-against

@thefenst: That is nice to know, but it still does NOT answer the earlier question.

What is wrong with the elephant?

vote-for9vote-against

I'm going to ask the obvious question. dosquatch, why do you care so much? Woot is not your website. Woot is Woot's website. If they don't want your deal or comment up, they take it down. Do you honestly feel you're owed an explanation or a policy that you think makes sense? If their rule is a moderator decides on appropriate or inappropriate content, that's their rule. If their rule was to print out proposed deals, lay out the printed deals on the floor in their offices, and toss 7 used baby diapers in the air.....taking down all of the deals that the diapers landed on.......then that's the rule. Get over it bro.

vote-for4vote-against

@codeman9090: I would think the word "tickler" would kinda give it away. I mean, a french maid with a duster I could see, but what is she tickling? The ficus?

My animal themed man-thongs are absolutely NOT sexual. Not while they're still on, anyway. I still do not see and have not heard a reason they cross a line other than "just because".

vote-for6vote-against

@dflpfan123: "I'm going to ask the obvious question. dosquatch, why do you care so much?"

Because the mods smack people for crossing the lines, and then won't say where the lines are. I'd rather approach this as an adult conversation, but that involves the other side... you know, conversing.

vote-for12vote-against

"Because the mods smack people for crossing the lines" Really dude??? Again, WHO CARES? I'm going to let you in on a little secret about being a grown up.........ready for it ????? LIFE ISN'T FAIR. Lot's of things aren't fair. It's not fair that my boss makes more than me and does 1/2 the work I do. It's not fair that my car insurance is higher because I live in an apartment complex and don't own a garage. It's not fair that my meatloaf went bad in my fridge after only 5 days because I really wanted to eat it. And it's not fair that your deals keep getting taken down. I have 2 ideas for you.........post deals that you know are considered appropriate, not deals that toe the line, or go find a different "deal site" to post to and hope their moderators make decisions more to your liking. Actually, I have a third idea..... grow up and quit whining about crap that doesn't matter. There is that option too.

vote-for7vote-against

@dflpfan123: Dude. For real. This is hysterical - you alone just made my whole day XD

YOU are taking me far more seriously than you should be, and certainly more so than I'm taking myself. Chill out. It's all good. I'm a grown up doing grown up things, and I'm amusing myself when the opportunity presents. Thanks for the laugh, really :o)

You should consider decaf ;o) LOL

vote-for5vote-against

I wanted to weigh in and note that comment rules may different from deal posts a bit too. (Different teams, different goals, different policies, etc. For example, moderation of deals themselves are not done by the community team.) Which is to say, this discussion about the deal is fine from my point of view, but the deals folks don't approve of the deal itself, obviously. =)

We are striving to better the understanding of each others departments, so bear with us if there are some bumps along the way.

vote-for6vote-against

Woot does what they want, I posted a hairless cat (yes, it was a naked cat...gasp) once on a wootoff and I got "probation" for it...was banned from chat for "x" amount ot time. All wootoff people want cat pictures, we all know this.

vote-for4vote-against

So the edible underbritches are considered edge of the road?

vote-for4vote-against

dosquatch, I've enjoyed this discussion quite a bit myself. Nothing like a good literary duel to make the last 30 minutes of a crappy Monday more enjoyable.
Good luck with your war onoppressive Woot moderators. You know what they say? - "You gotta fight, for your right, to add deals on Woot that don't get taken down"

vote-for4vote-against

@dosquatch: Like I said in the other post, go find some unicorn underwear to post...see how long that takes to be taken down, lol.

vote-for4vote-against

@luisibarra81: Thanks for renewing the question. I wasn't sure if the question got lost in the static or ignored.

vote-for2vote-against

@lavikinga: Those would probably get deleted.

vote-for3vote-against

@thefenst: thanks. I can understand why, but sometimes I get the feeling like Deals is driving all over the road like that old lady in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." http://www.oldpeoplearefunny.com/old-lady-driving-a-car-in-ferris-bueller%E2%80%99s-day-off/ Not easy sometimes to keep it in the middle.

vote-for6vote-against

@thefenst: Seriously, what is the problem with giving users feedback when a deal is deleted? You're forcing us to wear blindfolds, then smacking us when we don't stay on the path. "The road is wide, stay in the middle," is turning out to be more and more a pile of BS, since apparently woot's definition of wide and my own seem to be radically different.

I'm just as troubled that a post asking for qualification was deleted.

My perception is that woot is taking this stance: This is our site and we'll do what ever we want. If you want any guidance in what the limits are, go screw yourself.

If this perception is wrong, please tell me what's going on with you guys. Some of us are getting pretty darned frustrated with what seems like power tripping.

vote-for3vote-against

Is this the one about the guy that's mad because his merkin got yanked?

vote-for5vote-against

@craigmar: No, this is a different one. This is about men's novelty boxers.

I have a theory. If you're a woot advertiser, you get much wider latitude in what you can post. That would explain why ohcheri can post this:

http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/874d9f39-15ce-44e4-8406-a5014564ef59/black-thong-with-chaps-and-scarf#70

but dosquatch gets shut down. This is also why all manner of crude (and occasionally funny) t-shirts are allowed, but a deal for a poster of nasal and ear specula gets removed. The t-shirt companies are advertisers/sponsors. Woot treats us ordinary people in a cavalier manner because we're not writing them checks. That's my current theory, anyway.

vote-for8vote-against

I don't post too often, but I do want to say that I appreciate the Woot mods keeping this site relatively clean.

Remember, Woot wants to keep a broad base of people coming to this site. Apparently, some members aren't bothered by things that I (and others) consider inappropriate. I'm not saying everyone has to agree with me, but if the Woot mods were to allow those deals to stay, I'd frankly stop visiting the site, and so would a lot of other people. There's a fine line between funny and offensive, and if Woot permits people to keep crossing the line, the site would lose its legitimacy in the eyes of many people. Better to keep the site above reproach than risk losing customers. Or at least that's my $0.02.

Keep it up Woot mods.

P.S. - I'm not old, just conservative.

vote-for1vote-against

@goldiemcg: Did you get in trouble because you're not supposed to post pictures, or was it because the cat was naked? No kitty pron allowed?

vote-for2vote-against

@epompa03: You're so conservative that you would stop visiting a website (one that posts great deals everyday) just because there was the occasional "gag" post, or maybe a fake pubic wig? You take the cake good sir. I would not compare myself to old people if I were you, because I'm pretty sure most old people aren't even that crazy. I bet you would walk out of a library if you saw an anatomy book with a picture of genitalia. What are you protecting yourself from? Are your virgin eyes that sensitive? You must be trollin'.

vote-for6vote-against

@epompa03: I'm OLD and CONSERVATIVE. But, see, I'm a conservative in the sense that I don't think the state or anyone else should be shoving morals down anyone's throat. If you really would shop elsewhere because a member of the community posted fake chest hair or fake pubic hair, I wonder how you manage to operate in out in the real world. Do you never set foot outside your door because you might come across something offensive? Do you live in a gated community and only shop at malls?

Granted, woot is a private site, and they're within their rights to moderate as they see fit. All some of us are asking is that they provide some guidance and at least attempt to be consistent.

vote-for2vote-against

@codeman9090: Um ... thanks?

Edit: I don't know what deals you both are talking about, and I didn't say anything about a specific deal. My point was more general.

vote-for3vote-against

@marcoselmalo: The specula deals. I am sure this did not fall onto the too-sexy-for-your-woot naughty list, but instead went on the "potentially dangerous objects inserted into body and/or body openings" list. Syringes/needles might fall onto this list too. It was probably more of a CYA issue. Although this area goes grey with cigars versus cigarettes.

vote-for5vote-against

@epompa03: "I don't post too often, but I do want to say that I appreciate the Woot mods keeping this site relatively clean.

Remember, Woot wants to keep a broad base of people coming to this site. Apparently, some members aren't bothered by things that I (and others) consider inappropriate."

I don't disagree, the question is how does one define propriety. I do not truly have a burning desire to see man-thongs accepted, but I do NOT see how they are any more or less appropriate than naughty schoolgirl lingerie. I do NOT see how condoms are family-friendly but lube is not. And so on and so on.

There are severe consistency problems that an actual list of rules would go to great lengths to rectify, on both the user AND MODERATOR sides. At present, every mod is left to his/her own whims. This is NOT how to manage a community.

I do not wish to oust OhCheri, but neither do I wish to see them (or others) continue to receive preferential treatment on the acceptability issue. [more]

vote-for5vote-against

I spent yesterday basically being a PITA to the mods. They know it, I know it, they know I know it, I know they know it.

And I had a dang good time being a PITA, too.

That does not change the fact that I have a valid point, and that point should be taken seriously.

vote-for7vote-against

@lavikinga: "The Stainless Steel Beak for a Robotic Duck" was over the line, certainly. But the "speculum poster" was an illustration of ear and nose specula. Not even the actual objects, but an illustration! Is the very word speculum verbotten?

As far as medical devices (insertable and non-insertable) that can be potentially abused, my "sexy medical diagnostic kit" deal was still up. And what about the TENS units? Those show up on the main site as well as sponsored deals. No, I don't think woot is concerned about medical liability.

In this particular case, I think it was the word speculum that freaked out a moderator. They probably didn't know that there are specula other than the vaginal variety. And they probably had a really bad experience with a vaginal speculum involving dust and sand. (Further speculating: the sand continues to be a problem to this day.)

vote-for6vote-against

@dosquatch: I don't have a problem with ohcheri and other lingerie merchants either. As you said, the problem is that there is a double standard.

Maybe woot should consider an adult deal section?

vote-for3vote-against

Oh, apparently the edit elves are at it again. Please, woot staff. If you're going to edit my deal, please make a note of it.
