Get it now. It isn't worth the headache to keep that old phone around for another $20 off. Not to mention it might go out of stock quickly if the price starts falling. Considering the length of time you seem to keep cell phones I'd say don't wait.

On the same topic, I am wanting to buy a no-contract Nexus 5 for Ting. Do the Nexus devices ever go on discount in stores or is it always just as cheap to order directly from Google?

I don't need to get the phone for at least 4 months, but would buy early or look out for deals if there was a chance at a better price.

I agree with nmchapma. Get it now.

@ceagee: It's been out for 8 days. The only thing you'll find there are marked up items that were bought in anticipation of Google selling out.

Too close to black Friday for me to say go now. I've been buying phones on and around that time for the last 3 years. From what I've learned the best deals drop just before Friday, and just after up until Monday. If what you want goes on sale at any time during that period be sure to grab it. It could be February before they drop again.

@omnichad: Have you tried swappa.com? I see 16gb models starting at $410 there. I've bought and sold several devices on swappa and never had an issue by the way.

@k3nd0: See above. The device has only been out for a little over a week. The actual retail price is less than $410 - it's $349. For someone asking for a lower price, that really doesn't help.

@omnichad: Sorry, I did my best to check retail on that device and came up with $475ish. I guess Google was selling them for $350. I seriously doubt you will ever see that price again. I hope you understand that was a marketing move. If you have time to wait for an upgrade, then wait.

@k3nd0: I guess you didn't know how the Nexus is sold. I think that's Google's MSRP and they're going to at least keep selling it for that price.. I don't know if they ever do discounts or special offers or drop the price any time within 6 months after launch - and was hoping someone knew.

@jdgm3nt4l: Haven't made a decision yet. I was ready to bite the bullet until your answer! Can you hazard a guess at how much the price might to down on the GS4? I hate to wait and then not see a drop in price, but I also don't want to miss a good deal....

Thanks a bunch to the others who have actually answered MY original question!

@omnichad: I think google is somewhat like Apple in that sense. If you're buying retail they don't put anything on sale that quick after launch.

Don't get it now, wait 2 weeks if you are a Sams Club member and get the S4 for $1.

vote-for3vote-against

@bigred286: All speculation from me. But I would guess that the S4 will be on sale. I would expect to see a drop of at least $50. But wouldn't be surprised to see a little more ($100-ish) than that. Last year the S3 was going for a buck @ Sams. It was as fresh as the S4. Also check Bestbuy and Walmart as well as the carriers. And remember if you don't want to get out of the house, you can always call customer service for your carrier and try for a price match.

One other thing. I've missed out on a black friday price because I figured that the cyber monday deal would be better. It was not. So when you see the price you like be sure to grab it. Worst case is you have 14 day return without penalty at most places. Better that then missing out. Good luck.

ps. Just saw that it will be 49 bucks at staples on black Friday. Not sure if the carrier will match you. But it is a good sign. I would post a link but it's to a different site. Just look at your favorite black friday deal site.

Was perusing pre-black friday sales. If you have a Sam's Club plus membership, there is a VIP event Sunday evening, Nov. 24th. The S4 is listed as $0.96 with two year contract. (doesn't show any restrictions such as new accounts only, etc.) That's cheap enough I may consider one for myself.

Curious, what is your current phone that is glitchy? My wife still has her Thunderbolt and it is glitchy too.

vote-for2vote-against

Many thanks to jdgm3nt4l and jthebird1977 for steering me in the right direction! I'm pretty sure it doesn't get any cheaper than $0.96 for a phone, so looks like I'm going to Sam's on the 24th!!

@jthebird1977: I currently have a Motorola Droid X. Ever since the update that they pushed a month or so ago, it has been doing weird things. The clock stops telling the correct time, my touch keyboard stops working, etc. It's annoying, but I can wait another 2 weeks for a deal that good!!

You're welcome. But it just keeps getting better. Bestbuy just released their ad for black friday and they are giving it away with a new contract. It looks like the phone gods are smiling on you.

Enjoy the phone!

You're welcome. I have a razr maxx hd and just got some sort of update this morning. hopefully, it will help fix some of my glitches.

The Amzon offer at $130 sounds like a pretty good deal to me, but who knows what Black Friday will bring.
