questionswhat kind of woot stats would be interesting?

Hard numbers, or an option to get them, like we used to have.

@narfcake: I remain seriously amused that you "don't care" about the first/last sucker status on woot shirts and yet insert it into every possible thread; it's like shirt.woot's version of Gail Collins and the time Mitt Romney strapped Seamus the Dog onto the roof of the family car.

@okham: That was grouchy? really? your grouchiness needs lots of work to come across better!!...lol

collective blood alcohol level.

vote-for2vote-against

@morriea: Sorry if I came across as grouchy...wasn't feeling well yesterday and was a little over-sensitive.

@jsimsace: Thanks for the support :)

vote-for2vote-against

@cowboydann: Yeah, @neuropsychosocial is correct in that quite a few of mine were bought in the secondary market, along with some that were purchased under different account(s). I officially got the black square on my third Wootiversary ... which also happened to be the day that my car's odometer rolled a quarter-million (in 20+ years). Which is quite the far cry from the almost 3-million miles of this guy ...

As for most first/last ... I might be the guilty party there too, though I lost like 5 lasts in the past couple months due to Woot Plus and the site redesign losing one of the firsts. I'm down to 5 first-and-last-on-the-same-item now.

@neuropsychosocial: I told you that they're no longer in the bunker, but in the freez ... AW CRAP! SO THAT'S WHY YOU KNOW!

(Note to self: stop sharing secret shirt storage spots with fellow Wooters.)

vote-for4vote-against

I'd be interested in deals.woot stats. I'd like to know what sort of things/items/categories are most popular, and most posted. Also, what vendors seem most popular, and least popular. I guess this would have to be gleaned by up/down votes and wouldn't be perfect, but could be interesting and possibly useful.

vote-for4vote-against

@cowboydann: Just to be clear, I am not actually defending Narfcake's shirt acquisition: no one actually needs six copies of Unstealthiest Ninja I and four copies of Unstealthiest Ninja II.

(@narfcake: just think, you could have sold me one when I asked politely; instead, ALL YOUR UNNINJAS WILL BE MINE! Once I figure out how to tunnel into your nuclear fallout t-shirt bunker so I can steal them, that is...)

vote-for3vote-against

@gmwhit: "Now that you've broken it, please don't try to 'fix' it w/superfluous stats that aren't customer oriented." THIS So much THIS.

vote-for5vote-against

@neuropsychosocial: Learn something new every day :P good on him then.

vote-for5vote-against

@cowboydann: I would be surprised if @narfcake were actually the top buyer at shirt.woot; the majority of his shirts come from the secondary market. I think he didn't get a black square until sometime in 2012, actually... I felt really stupid when I realized I had one and he didn't (in my defense, half my black square is shirts and the other half is Lock n' Lock. :)

@shawnmiller: Off the top of my head, I'd really like sales stats for the Woot Plus items on shirt.woot: just straight-up sales numbers. I'd also love to see size distributions on shirt.woot, or at least a breakdown percentage of men's/women's/kids' sizes. I'd also find "revenue rank" interesting for certain items, but it would be easy for it to be meaningless (178,294th of 570,124: um, wow?). Thanks for asking us what we might be interested in!

vote-for2vote-against

@cowboydann: lol...I do not believe what I think carries much weight around here. In fact by the lack of votes for my deals, I probably carry negative weight!!!

I feel fine about it anyway.

vote-for6vote-against

Would top buyers invade personal privacy? I'd like to see who is the first person to beat out @narfcake now that he's not buying shirts anymore. How seeing who has the most First suckers or most Last Wooter to Woots? That could work I think. It wouldn't say what woots you have purchased, just how many. I think that would be P. good too.

Just throwing a couple ideas out there. @morriea how do you feel about that?

vote-for4vote-against

It would be cool to see how many upvotes/downvotes my comments/deals had in a give time period(days, weeks, all time, etc). It would also be cool to see how many deals/questions/comments I had voted for.

vote-for2vote-against

@okham: You're still OK here. Sometimes the first answer has to take a few punches. Be true to your thoughts.

vote-for4vote-against

@morriea:

Ok. I believe we are pretty much in agreement then (though I'm not sure that we were when this started).

As for your posts, I did not (and do not) think that they sound like a rant.

vote-for3vote-against

@baqui63: I understand. Believe me, I really did not miss the point... The difference is that in order for there to be a choice to share the information it MUST be gathered as opposed to MIGHT be gathered. There is a big difference. Just because somebody MIGHT do something is no reason to have it done on purpose.

By the way, I promise I am calm and smiling and having fun. In reading my posts it seems kind of like a rant. Not my intention at all. I am just not very versed in emoticons....lol.

vote-for10vote-against

Funny, amusing; don't care.
- Woot Speed: 4th today, 1415th all time
- Woot Quantity: 1st today, 418th all time
- Woot Revenue: 7th today, 1941st all time

Really, really don't care. These are internal woot stats that are of interest to you. Please keep them to yourself.
- Dividing stats up by site (Woot, Wine.Woot, Shirt.Woot…)
- Dividing stats up by event type (Daily deal, Woot-Off, Woot Plus, Moofi, Reckoning…)
- Woot Plus stats to show which products are the hot sellers within a single event

My own Leaderboard? Don't quite understand the point of this. Maybe I'm missing something. (Probably am.)
- Letting customers click settings to build their own leaderboard

The stat of 'how many have been sold' WAS interesting. Especially w/boc's.

Now that you've broken it, please don't try to 'fix' it w/superfluous stats that aren't customer oriented.

vote-for4vote-against

@morriea:

No argument from me on most of what you wrote, but I think you missed the main point, which is that woot already publicly publishes the data needed for someone to write a program that continually reads the first page of a given item's forum post and builds a database of the usernames that purchased that item.

(I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to actually write said script, but it isn't long or complicated.)

vote-for4vote-against

Ratio of bacon or zombie related items to total deals. Or is that was Awesomeness rates?

vote-for5vote-against

@baqui63: The words "Offer all sorts of interesting stats about an individual's purchase habits" is too much already. Again, getting anonymous data is one thing, but to "OFFER" the information means that they would need to know more about me, INDIVIDUALLY BY NAME, than I care to share. They would need to gather that information in case I decide to opt in. Also, the percentage of time that I spend on a particular part of the site is still my business...Woot would need to build a data base about me in particular, as opposed to an anonymous user. I am only NOT anonymous when I choose to participate by up-voting, answering, posting, etc...but that is strictly my choice.

@okham I like your honesty, and generally agree with you...just in disagreement this time.

By the way...I never try to be the 1st sucker.

vote-for5vote-against

@morriea:

When I read @lpgstock's post, I see it as me being able to setup these stats about me, not about you or anyone else.

As for @okham's suggestion, note that this information is available already in the "First Sucker:" and "Last Wooter to Woot:" stats that are displayed. With a script that repeatedly reads the current stats, it would be fairly easy to build a database of who bought what, though how many of each item would not be possible.

vote-for5vote-against

@morriea: I was thinking in the same line as "first sucker," which already lists user info. Y'know, "last sucker" or some such.

Sorry, all for answering the question with an honest answer.

vote-for19vote-against

@lpgstock: and @okham PLEASE NO. You are giving away personal information that MAYBE I do not want the community to have. Exactly what I buy, and what my preferences are, is no one's business unless I choose to share that information. I do not mind the anonymous gathering of information, but DO NOT broadcast to the community what I buy and what my preferences are.

Along the lines of the customized leaderboards... What if you offered a "Set Preferences" section that could offer all sorts of interesting stats about an individual's purchase habits.... I.e. What product categories do you look at most often?; what percentage of your woot time is spent on community questions vs. deals...etc... Folks can then check and follow the preferences that are of most interest to them. There's my two cents...

vote-for3vote-against

Its a neat idea to have a customized leaderboard... Then after that gets going you can have a leaderboard leaderboard that shows who gets picked the most for the customized leaderboards!! (I'm actually not being overly sarcastic here... :)

vote-for2vote-against

Who bought the last 3 of the item. Just a thought.
