Do you use Google Alerts to check on yourself or others?

I mentioned this on a different thread but I wanted to know if anyone else used Google Alerts. http://www.google.com/alerts
It allows you get an email whenever a website mentions (whatever your choose). I have a couple of alerts set up for my name, my wife and a few friends. I like it because it lets me know if we're mentioned in any kind of news or post.
I suppose it could also be used to keep an alert for any specific topic or news story you're following.

Yes, I have it set up for the name of my store, my name and my husband's name. There is a judge in Montana with the same name as my husband so I get alerts every time he is mentioned in the news. I tell my husband...looks like you sentenced another bad guy to some hard time!

I don't use it for myself but it has been helpful in looking for news stories. A friend of mine's daughter was hurt in a racing accident, I was really worried about her so I set up an alert for the track that she was racing at. It was helpful. I've also used it for a few other tags, just subjects that I am interested in. It does send a lot of random crap though.

Geez, why so negative?

You have to vote up more before you can vote down.

Don't get us wrong. Negativity has its place. And downvotes are just as essential as upvotes when it comes to making Deals.Woot a useful place to find deals.

But when your votes lean so heavily toward the dark side, we have to wonder. Go vote up a few things. Accentuate the positive for a little while. It'll do you some good, and it'll do the site some good, too. Then you can get back to dealing out the smackdowns, OK?

See, we do a lot of stuff with your vote, using it to work out the popularity of what you voted for, compare that to all the other things voted on, tally up our leaderboard, work out your reputation.
