Back in high school I had a big afro and I was skinny as a rail. I painted my hair and face white, wore a white sweat suit, and glued cotton balls all over my shoes up above my ankles.

I was a Q-Tip.

@no1: HA the ecce homo I think will be the way to go. That would be absolutely HILARIOUS.

One year in college I made an elaborate pacman outfit with pvc pipe and fabric, and two friends of mine made ghost outfits. We ran around campus, me saying "DEAR LORD NO WHHHHHYYYYY" and them chasing me yelling, "Waka Waka Waka Waka".

Last year I went as Gumby. I went to my daughters school and then trick or treating in the neighborhood. It was a big hit. The greatest response was from the parents. "it's gumby dammit!". Some kids were clueless, but a few did recognize it. It's full body, but can get a little hot (polyester). I found this one (cheapest at the moment) at walmart for $39.76 which isn't bad for a full costume:

Timing is everything as you could have had this as low as $28 a couple of weeks ago, but then again most place are charging $50-70 for this costume now.

A good costume is one that's mainstream enough that you don't constantly have to explain what your costume is. And feel free to post a picture when you've picked one!

@mfladd: Gumby is one of those perfect costumes because it gives adults a good laugh/inside joke, without offending kids and making parents cringe.
