Did any one else see that Woot's SmartPost Shipping was featured on The Consumerist site?
And I thought I was the only one who felt Smart Post actually seemed to go backwards in time once the packages were shipped from Woot! I'm not complaining, mind you. Five dollar shipping for over-sized items, or wine, is a bargain.

It must just be certain areas where people have problems with SmartPost. I've NEVER had a problem with SmartPost and not one package has been delivered after the estimated delivery date. I'd say 90% of the packages come before that date. And I live in Detroit, a far ways away from Woot.
Oddly enough, when I ordered my last phone from Verizon, my package (through FedEx) went from their warehouse, to Detroit, to my suburb, to Detroit, to Ohio, to Detroit, then to another suburb, back to Detroit, and then to my house. A week later.
I love SmartPost!
I HATE SmartPost! That being said, as long as I know ahead of time that I'm getting a shipment via SmartPost its ok. My last order for Monkeys was shipped on July 17th and I got the order on July 26th. My estimated delivery date was July 22nd. Now I don't expect VIP treatment (Amazon Prime anyone?) when I pay for cheap, or even the cheapest shipping (at least we have options nowadays) but SmartPost does take a little bit to long.
For my SmartPost orders I see 85% Late, 15% on time, and 0% early.
If I had any say, and or choice I would Rarely* choose SmartPost. But thats just me.
*Sometimes I don't need things (read monkeys) ASAP. As long as I get them I'm good!
It's completely random for me in MI. Some things get to me in a couple days and I've also had it take well over a week before.
@unoriginal26: Ooh, thanks for reminding me. I've been meaning to post a question concerning some odd things I've noticed lately with Prime Membership.
I think a big part depends on the efficiency of your local USPS office. My packages via Smartpost are always earlier than the expected delivery date. According to tracking, USPS gets my packages from Fedex and then delivers them to my apartment that same day. But maybe now that I've said this my packages from now on will always arrive late.
More like DUMBPost! HA!
Seriously though, you can't beat $5 flat shipping. Especially considering only some things are shipped through SP.
I'm one of the ones who doesn't have much luck with the 'Post - but considering how much money it's saved me, I like it.
And it may be slow as hell, but SmartPost makes Woot "charming" heh
Personally, I don't care how long a package takes to arrive as long as it's within the estimated time frame noted by the seller. Meritline advises 2-3 weeks, and it's always been an accurate estimate.
Beyond that, my view is that if faster delivery is critical, order it elsewhere.
