Was the "Top Early Adopters" ranking in the Leaderboard changed?
I don't seem to remember seeing the "minimum 5 votes" in that section before. I believe it used to say "over the past 24 hours".
For a while there it was blank. I assume this was when they were changing/reprogramming this section. I hope that there will be more activity today to give the developers a chance to test the new box.

Now it says Today's Top Voters, so I am guessing it did change.
I think that, until you pointed it out, and I backed it up, that they really were thinking that they weren't counting sponsored deals (and votes on already popular deals). You should expect this one to populate slowly. There really aren't that many people who vote on the fresh tab, and certainly not with any regularity.
This thing will also probably start to show certain people who ONLY vote up specific items. I've quit voting for deals, other than the occasional sponsored deal, and you should expect to see my reputation start to fall over time.
Really, it gets old to make suggestions on how to improve things, and see effort expended on window dressing. Yes, I've had coffee. Yes, I'm annoyed. Yes, I'll get over it.
It's starting to feel like working, here, and I'm retired.
If it is any consolation I totally vote for stuff other than the sponsored deals.

@hobbit: I've always known you were virtuous in that regard. I have no interest in leading any category, and after gaming the obvious ones, don't even find it particularly interesting. I'd love to send them the math for how to actually verify reputation, as opposed to popularity, but I doubt that will happen.
It's just a web site. It was interesting while it was starting up, but is beginning to be less so. One of the things that kept my focus was the unintended consequence of AtW, which has become a social network of sorts, all on its own. People sometimes forget that social networking was around long before there were forced and artificial constructs such as myspace to give it a home. Pshaw, I remember comp.lang.lisp and misc.jobs.discuss (as two examples). Usenet was probably the first real online social network of any seriousness (unless you want to count in the Arpanet days).

@shrdlu: We reviewed our code and the previous Top Early Adopters category was not counting votes for Sponsored Deals.
Window dressing, huh? Our goal with this change is to encourage healthy voting patterns. The challenge is coming up with a simple to understand leaderboard category that can't easily be gamed or that would be harmful to behavior we'd like to encourage.
There were a couple of interesting leaderboard suggestions over here (http://deals.woot.com/questions/details/f862b657-8397-4cf4-8b62-49d13b754781/possible-miscalculation-with-the-leaderboard) but frankly nothing that has me jumping out of my chair.
@shawnmiller: I'll certainly be happy to grant you your statements, since only one of us has access to any real data. Everything I might say would be a guess, of course. No matter how educated guesses might be, they don't replace real data. Thanks for the response.
I am always appreciative of your time in answering. Pity tone of voice doesn't come across in mere words, but I am quite sincere in that statement.

@shawnmiller: I really like the way the top voters is working now. You are clearly only mentioning those who've actually made the effort to vote on items still on the Fresh tab, and kudos to those folks who are making the effort to help the rest of Deals by looking for things worth voting for. It's much more meaningful this way.
@faughtey: I am happy to hear that your father is doing better. I am sorry to hear that your brother is still in the hospital.
I hope that your father and brother have a speedy and complete recovery.
