There was a 42" TV and some stickers on the shirt.woot-off for $99... But yeah, overall - lackluster.

I never thought it was a thing, truthfully. When many people were constrained to await Monday to use the internet (lacking proper access outside of work), it showed up a bit, but with the widespread use of smartphones, I think those days are gone.

I certainly don't think I saw anything special (not at the B&M stores on Grey Thursday, or Black Friday, nor today). Then again, I wasn't much looking.

On the other hand...

It's Gift Week on Wine dot Woot!!! Hooray!!!

And here I was thinking it was so much better than last year. I scored some toys over at the Hasbro website for 25% off and free shipping, grabbed a couple nice deals for myself on Amazon (a Husqvarna lawnmower for $150 delivered? Are you kidding me?), and the television deals are awesome on multiple sites. Of course there will be lots of lame deals, but I thought there was a fair share of good ones this year.

I work for an online retailer and both last year and this year, our Cyber Monday sales are almost double our Black Friday sales. Both days offered the exact same deals, but it seems that people who shop online (at least with our customer base anyway), prefer to wait until Cyber Monday to do their shopping. Access to high speed internet may be a factor, but probably also the hype around Cyber Monday has many people joining in on the freeding frenzy. All we did was update our copy/graphics to say "CYBER MONDAY" instead of "HOLIDAY" or "BLACK FRIDAY" and they took the bait.

@thewronggrape: which online retailer would that be? I saw lots of deals that were worse online than their BF counterparts (also online)

I follow several deal aggregators and no, Cyber Monday is not worth going apesh!t for. I can't point out a single week throughout the year where all the sales were incredible and that includes Cyber Monday.

Protip: Just because it's called "Black Friday" or "Cyber Monday" doesn't mean the deals are worthwhile. Do your research people.

When people had dial up at home, and time to web surf at work, maybe. But, now, anyone with money to spend has broadband, and employers have trimmed staff to the bone. Nobody is going to wait until Monday to start shopping online.

No.
It's totally a thing. This year, 20% up in sales compared to last year. I'd say it's even MORE of a thing.

@quadconpana: Why yes they did. Biggest day ever. Have a piece of pie.

The best online deals, by far, are on Thanksgiving morning and Black Friday morning. The "cyber Monday" deals are mediocre, most of them just run-of-the-mill discounts, or at best, a continuation of the Thursday/Friday sales. Ten years ago, give or take, when a lot of households did not have high-speed internet access and did most of their online shopping from their workplace on Monday, this cyber monday concept was born. But in the last 3-4 years at least, it's just marketing hype. Online stores put out cyber monday emails and banner ads, and people who don't comparison shop spend money in droves, but the deals themselves are mostly not that great. A few gems here and there, of course, but overall not that good.

I found it a mixed bag. Some places held out and had better deals on Monday, some where the same and some weren't as good. I guess I just looked for things I was already in the market for and shopped where and when I found what I wanted at a deal price !

The best deals are online. "Cyber Monday" and "Black Friday" are just advertising hooks to get peoples' attention. You still need to shop around and make sure the deal you are getting is good.

My Pet peeve is calling it Black FRIDAY when it starts Thursday! Now Cyber MONDAY deals just keep coming, even though yesterday was Monday. From here til Christmas we'll have to suffer through "Black Friday 2" and Black everything.

The last three years, I've bought 90% of my stuff online!

Are there good deals on Cyber Monday. Yes and even better than Black Friday in a couple cases for me.

1. I bought new cell phones in mid October using a coupon code, employer discount to get free activation, and I shopped every site and black friday ad. $99 each. 12 days later amazon sells them for $40 + $35 activation, effectively $25 cheaper. I got my price match since it was within 14 days. Yay! I open up the carrier home page yesterday and they're absolutely free (with a 2yr contract). I could have saved $75 each had I waited. That's sort of frustrating but there's nothing I can do now.

2. There's a motorcycle parts dealer that offers 20% off site wide plus gift cards for spending certain thresholds. It doesn't sound like much but it's the best sale all year. OEM parts don't really go on sale. The black friday offerings from most similar stores are very poor.

I do think that the catch phrases are getting over used though. I'm sick of stores using Black Friday and Cyber Monday all year long!! And they're starting sales earlier and earlier now so I wonder if they're going to have better ones in a couple days that aren't announced yet. And there are pre black friday sales. And when did cyber monday turn into cyber week!?!

I'd say it's just a popular as a woot-off!
