Will you be camping out outside Amazon's Seattle brick and mortar store?
Several months ago i asked "Would you ever visit an Amazon brick and mortar store?" and most people said no or they'd only go out of curiosity. Well I believe they were listening and wanted to prove the haters wrong ;) Today i read news that Amazon is planning on opening a real life Seattle physical store later this year
http://goodereader.com/blog/electronic-readers/amazon-in-the-process-of-launching-a-retail-store/
apparently emphasis is on their Kindles, tablets, and amazon-published books. possibly some great Seattle coffee, who knows? maybe Woot staff will be on hand to throw monkeys at people too
Will you make the trek out to the flagship Amazon store? do you predict we'll see any Kindle afficionados camping out with their Kindles, tents, and live-blogging their experience? Will you be one of them?
I'd go if it wasn't on the other side of the US from me.
Thanks, I hadn't heard about that. Opening a physical store now is seems really odd to me. Many B&M stores/businesses are closing. And to open one that deals w/Kindle products & ebooks puzzles me. The whole point of Kindle ebooks is that you receive them wirelessly. ...And physical Kindle products are already available in other B&M stores. Not sure why they're doing this. It seems bassackwards.
Only if they have a Woot! section/aisle and will be randomly offering up BoC's
@natedogg828: We could just go camp outside the woot offices instead. Probably less people, but a better quality.
@okham: Fine by me, that's only a 20 minute drive from my house
i'd camp outside of woot's seattle office, but i know how that conversation would go.
cop: hey, no sleeping here.
me: but i'm not homeless. i'm just waiting for the woot people.
cop: i know. and this is the fifth time this month we've had to drive you idiots away.
@carl669: Good thing they're not in DC. I hear the police are less friendly to "campers." :/
@carl669: SPD has been known to kill woodcarvers, punch jaywalkers, and kick handcuffed people on the ground so you seem to be hoping for the best case.
Also I will visit the Amazon store once to check it out but not on opening day.
Do you think they'll have a regular line and an express one for Prime members?
@captainsuperdawg: Possibly. Though, it makes absolutely NO sense. ;-) Take your time, gas money, etc. to go to a B&M store, and then ask them to ship it to you for free?
Just a shot in the dark, perhaps they are testing to see if they compete with physical Walmart stores for the consumer base? I can't really think of any other reason.
I think it's an interesting idea. Rather than compete against the Barnes & Nobles or Targets with this kind of thing, I imagine it's a more direct shot at the Apple Store.
As Amazon releases more of their own products, an "Apple Store" type setup makes more and more sense, and those stores have been very successful throughout the United States.
Good way to sell their products and provide in-person customer service.
I would. The only reason we ever hesitate to buy on Amazon is the fact that we like to put our hands on what we're purchasing first. If they're going to give you the option of doing that, directly with them - I like it. But really - That's a few thousand miles away, so I won't be going.
No. I don't camp anywhere.
I just have this image of a small store where you select tags for the items you want, go to the checkout, and in the back there is a giant warehouse with robots selecting and bagging your items so a conveyor brings them up to you by the time you're done paying.
@lisaviolet: +1 on the "no camping". I was in the army. I camped enough.
Only camping I do these days is in call of duty.
