Probably because they are cheaper to license. I have noticed that as well. Most of the horror/suspense are foreign and IMO, that makes them not as good. Not that I think only Americans are able to make good movies (I thought Pan's Labyrinth was pretty good) but foreign movies have references and such that I just don't get.

Probably because in the last 10 years or so, with the exception of the major blockbusters coming out, the majority of films in the US have gotten much worse in quality. The film companies seem to have run out of ideas and refuse to think out of the box. Films from other companies aren't controlled by the monopoly that the US has, so they can go with any ideas they want. Getting a film made in the US is more about who you know than how good your idea is. It's extremely hard for independent writers to get their scripts into someone's hands that can make it happen. We keep getting movies with re-hashed ideas coming out of the same small collection of writers. Yes there are some good movies coming out of the US, but it seems like most of the good quality "films" are coming from other countries now. There have been few movies made in the last 10 years in the US that I have the desire to re-watch. Sure they were entertaining, but how many people re-watch Spiderman?

@meikat: Spiderman is a great example. They're "rebooting" a series that started 10 years ago. It'd be funny if it weren't so sad.

My wife dies a little on the inside everytime I add a new zombie/campy/horror movie to our queue.

Haven't you ever seen a foreign person? They are pretty scary. :)

Why the hate for foreign movies? Some of the best horror films I've seen recently have been made outside the United States. They're usually more creative and take more risks than typical Hollywood fare.

A partial list of foreign horror flicks I've seen on Netflix that I've loved:
Dead Snow
Dream Home
Santa Sangre
Let the Right One In
The Host
Audition
Mutants
Funny Games
The Cat O' Nine Tails
Shiver
Art of the Devil

american men have always been attracted to foreign horrors, hence the popularity of russian and asian import brides

There are some seriously kickass movies coming out of Asia right now..

I've always been a fan of foreign movies. They just seem to be written better than the usual cookie cutter hollywood stuff. A great one I watched recently was "The Orphanage". Amazing movie with a mind blowing ending
