I don't have any kids, but when I was growing up I was only allowed to watch an hour of tv and play 30 minutes of video games a day. I always hated that rule. It forced me to read a book or go outside or something. Eesh, parents...

No kids, but my gaming was limited to about an hour each day when I was younger and it got more and more as I got older. I could always squeeze out a good extra 20 minutes with my "I need to find a save point first," excuse though.

My 20 month old daughter watches a little television but I did too when I was her age. I think that kids are very resilient, and so long as parents are there to explain things on the way they will turn out just fine.

People are blaming media for kids actions these days I blame s#!ty parenting.

We really tried to keep the TV down (if not zero) for the first 12-18 mos. There's something a bit sad when you see your own kids getting a glassy eyed stare looking at the TV.

I don't know if there's necessarily a hard rule now, but I'd say the rule is just about 30 minutes. They're still little, but there's too much else they could be doing instead.

I know some parents can get really crazy about the TV thing, but really it can get hypocritical when you consider how some of those same parents (me included) set a bad example regularly looking at their own TV/smartphone/iPad/whatever.
