Can you recommend speakers, sub, and amp for my car?
I have a 2012 Sonata and the speakers in it sound kind of flat, even after playing with the equalizer and settings etc.
So I have decided to upgrade the speakers on the doors, as well as add a sub and amp.
Just looking for some advice on what to pop in there!
Speakers are 6 1/2.

I don't know much about brands but in my experience, the cost for installing an amp is surprisingly high. The door speakers will probably be something you can do yourself and a sub box can just be placed in the trunk.
I used to be into the car stereo thing, I was always pleased with Boston Acoustics for my mids, and Infinity tweeters and subs, but I'm not current on what's the best for the money these days.
@benyust2: Thanks for the reply, I was planning to have the sub and amp installed in the trunk of the car as I do not really plan to use that much. I went to best buy the other day to see what they had to say, and the final quote they gave me was $1200 something for 4 speakers, the sub, the amp, a 4 year warranty, installation, and the additional hardware I would need to keep my stock head unit. I checked reviews on the stuff they told me was good, and was not overly thrilled, that is why I turned to woot!
@woothulhu: I see, I was shown Kickers and Alpine brand. I have no prior experience with either...
Best Buy selected the following.
4x Alpine 6-1/2 SPE-6000 $159.98
1x Kicker 12 Sub DC122 $299.99
1x Kicker 500W mono amp DX5001 $249.99
1x Kicker install kit $99.99
1x Output converter $50.99
$70 for front speaker install
$70 for rear speaker install
$70 for sub / amp install
$20 for output converter install
$105 or so in 4 year warranties
I saw some of them cheaper on the web..
Check out SonicElectronix.com. No, I'm not an employee of them - just one really happy customer. The best prices I could find (without worry of being scammed) and great customer service.
I installed a 5000W stereo system in a Porsche 944 myself, and did a TON of research before taking on a task that size.
P.S. Also check out Darvex.com for all your wiring. About half the price of local install shops (I needed 1/0 power cable...)
@darkinc: You should install yourself. Its not that rough... If you self install check out crutchfield.com or onlinecarstereo.com Crutchfield will include everything needed for your car as far as directions for disassemble and re-assemble, plus if you buy a new receiver they will include the wiring kit, and harness set for FREE! Online car stereo has ROCK BOTTOM PRICES!
Sub wise I roll Kicker!! I have 2 Kicker Comp VRs and separate amps for my subs and speakers. Installation took a few hours, no biggie.
Good Luck, and hope you look forward to many years of good music!
@unoriginal26: I am a bit weary of installing myself because of the wiring from engine to trunk. I do not want to drill holes in the firewall to run the wires, that is why I planned to pay to have it installed. Plus most likely will be able to hide the wires better then I can xD. I may go with the kicker, which do you have for your sub?
@darkinc: For my subs i have this amp:

I have these Subs: (I have an older version)

Usually if you look hard enough, you can find a hole to run your wiring thru the firewall. In my car, we ran it out of the engine bay along the side paneling, then into the car thru the drivers door access. Hiding the wires is easy as pie, as you just pop off the side "holder" (plastic piece separating the carpet from the door frame) for the carpet on either side of the car. (Remember to run power on one side, and wiring RCAs etc on the other to minimize interference.) Once the wires are run, you are over 50% done!
@unoriginal26: Can I get your thoughts on these two items bestbuy advised since you are a fan of kickers?
Thanks so much for your input :)
@darkinc: Those subs are Kickers Entry Level Sub. I had them before I got my Comp VRs, and they do sound good. It appears that the amp is also well matched for the subs giving you just over 135 watts per sub.
I haven't been in the car audio section of Best Buy in years, but I know in the past they used to have subs hooked up to listen to. I would listen to those subs, and then compare them to subs that are cheaper, and more expensive. make sure you listen to them at loud, and quiet volumes, along with up closer and further away. Also bring in a demo cd of your favorite music to listen to.
Once you heard, and reheard them if they sound good go for it. As far as the warranty, if you are going to turn them up to loud, or plan on being abusive (read unable to, or don't want to care for them) then the warranty could be for you. Read and make sure they cover 100% of the sub and amp. If you have to pay a "deductible" it may be cheaper for you to replace or upgrade at that time.
@unoriginal26: Yea they had that here, but the equipment was not setup right so I was unable to test the right combination. I found the speakers on buy.com for $50 a pair, still looking for cheaper others.
